"Newark Musical Instrument Crafts would like to welcome you to a showcase of student craftsmanship and precision, through examples of instruments they have made and restored as part of their course.

"As well as the instruments themselves, on display will be specialist tools that the students have designed and engineered themselves. Guest musicians will also test some of the instruments and giving feedback to students during the day. There will also be opportunities to speak with both graduating students and tutors about their experiences.

"We'd like to welcome all who are interested in musical instrument crafts, including both public and trade, and encourage those interested in the craftsmanship and courses available to pop along.

    Violin Making and Repair, Viola and Cello Making
    Newark College Violin School, Kirkgate, Newark

bringing this thread back to the fore so that more people who live near enough to attend the open day this Saturday will know about. I think it would be a great place to visit if you are interested in instruments, even if you don't make or repair them yourself.

If you have been following the discussion about visa problems for internatonal students (no fault of their own or of Newark School, but rather the knock on effect of a low Ofsted rating for parent school Lincoln college), the local m.p. has been in discussion with the Home Office and fully expects the 4 violin making students who are immediately affected will get exceptional extension of their visas so that they can complete the course. Students from outside the E.U. who were intending to start the course next autumn may still not be able to do so, however. Let's hope the issue is resolved sooner rather than later.
