In Search of info about Canal Boat musical trips

Subject: ISO INFO ABOUT CANAL BOAT MUSICAL TRIPS
From: open mike

I am searching info on canal trips, narrow boat travel, etc. I seem to recall hearing of some boats that follow a course which has music festivals along the route or musical trips that include musicians on board or stop at pubs for sessions during the trip. It seems there was a regular event hosted by a musician who did a lot of sea faring music, such as chanteys, etc. Can anyone add any info or share any links along these lines? thank you!

I am researching canal trips and music and wonder if there is any updated information for 2017 to add to this list from years ago? I seem to recall a musical canal trip with opportunities for musician to play and sing as they float along, and attend festival, jam sessions or events along the way....is there such an event currently planned?

On this map for Staffordshire and surrounds you can get a few results by typing 'canal' into the search box.
But it isn't at all comprehensive. It becomes quite hard to be objective about what is accessible, depending very much on time, fitness, and enthusiasm for a venue!

Think Glasgow TMSA hosts an annual canal boat trip from (Spiers Wharf? to Kirkintilloch? in July perhaps?
I may have made up the start and stop points-and the month ---I am sure someone else will correct this.
Or if I have time to look up the website / facebook page I should be able to find info myself- -

Neil Caldwell is the man you want to speak to. There are threads on here regarding but I cannot remember the title of them.

This year's Glasgow TMSA trip on the Clyde Canal starts from Baird's Brae at 1pm on Sunday 29th July, and lasts 4 hours. Full details here: http://www.tmsa.org.uk/scottish-music-event.asp?e=2785&b=7

Linlithgow Folk Festival also usually have musical cruises on the Friday night of festival weekend: their brochure for this year's festival will be out in early July. The relevant Friday is September 8th.

And check the Club & Festival map by Chris Rust

again, open it in a browser not 'maps'.
Zoom in on the canal and see if there are any clubs in striking distance.

Yeah, it was a little much - more than a little. It's not fair to refresh a whole bunch of related threads. It splits and confuses the discussion. Choose one thread and post there - or start a new thread.
I moved all the related messages into this one thread.

I am sure the OPer has seen Narrowboat thread - I added a few links

otherwise try Mr Red's map page - starts with Frampton on the Gloucester Sharpness canal Folk in Frampton Village Hall every Tues, 3 Horseshoes in Frampton several nights, Wed alternates with the Red Lion in Arlingham (a fair walk) which is the one venue that my map software lists at the wrong distance from Frampton (there is a limit to how much approximation of estuary and river one amateur geek can encompass)

FWIW Frampton has the longest village green in England, and the cricket match thereon has a weird scoring. 6 if you get it over the road, 4 if it only hits the road. Not sure how many for skimming into the road.

Tom Lewis was your man for this, but it looks like he's retired from that particular aspect of his business.
