Hi everyone,

after a few trips to Brittany always love the traditional music I hear but can never remember names of tracks or know what to look up on returning home, recently a band I am in has been adopting some Cornish melody into the songs, such as Plethen Newylna and Delyo Syvy (strawberry leaves). Can anyone point me towards some Breton tunes suitable for fiddle\guitar\double bass line up.

here's a bit of what we do (original songs on here though) for anyone who is interested, cheers.

I you go onto The Session (www.thesession.org) and type in An Dro or Hanter Dro you'll get a few tunes for the 'snakelike' dance you see in Brittany. Tunes on the same site like Gannivelle, La Cochinelle and Canal en Octobre are not Breton but very well known French tunes.

Breton tunes usually don't have names.

The band C'hwibanez are worth checking out for instrumental dance tunes.

"Kan ha diskan" is the traditional vocal dance music, which usually works on instruments. And that does have names, sort of - the words are very repetitive and usually don't have a lot of content.

This from Monique's link is about the most multicultural item you'll ever see. A song from the Solomon Islands in Tok Pisin arranged for Highland bagpipes by Breton players...

Mel Bay publishes a Breton tune book. The tunes are good ones.

For Breton fiddle, Christain LeMaitre's yer man. He has at least 1 solo album, and has several recordings with "Kornog", and "Celtic Fiddle Festival".
Kevin Burke also includes a few Breton tunes on one of his instructional DVDs.

If you are playing for dancing, remember you are playing for dancing.

If you are a dancer maybe you won't forget that.

Andros & Hanter Dros still need the rhythm for dancers.
