Heading south from Mendocino ???????????????????????
Two old desperados driving like a falling rain

Bound to see the lights and ladies, hug em up and kiss their babies
Dance along the sparkling streets and lie beyond the Golden Gate

Brandy gave us chicken curry, told us boyz now dontcha hurry
All the ????? have broken down

So off we drove ????????????????????????????????
????????????????????? Bobby you forgot your boots

We started drinking ??????????????????????????????????????
She works in a no-name bar and gave us drinks for free

????????? Golden Gate ?????????????????
Wonder if we ????????????????????????????????

?????????????????????????????????????
?????????????????????????????????????

?????????????????????????????????????
?????????????????????????????????????

?????????????????????????????????????
?????????????????????????????????????

I met a beauty at ?????
Find out she's a guy well honey since we already paid our money

?????????????????????????????????????
Can you spare some change or would you ???????????

?????????????????????????????????????
????????????????????? dancing with the Hare Krishna

Heading back to Mendocino 'cross the bridge thru South Toledo
Two old desperados weaving thru a falling rain

Bound to see our own ol' ladies, hug em up and kiss our babies
Crawl in bed and tell em, it's so good to be back home again

La lalalalallal, lalalallaal
Lalalalalalalalalalaaaaaaaaaaa

That's all I can comprehend. I'll leave the rest to ya.

(This song was mentioned by Pulitzer winner Roger Ebert in his film review book as an example of pure humor.)

Takes a Bay Area resident to do this one. I think I got most of it, except for the strip joint on Broadway.
The No-Name Bar in Sausalito still exists. The Drinking Gourd was a semi-famous folk club in SF (there was a thread about it here some time ago).

MENDOCINO DESPERADOS
(Bob Gibson)

Heading south from Mendocino to descend on Sausalito
Two old desperados driving like a falling rain

Bound to see the lights and ladies, hug 'em up and kiss their babies
Dance along the sparkling streets that lie beyond the Frisco bay

Brenda gave us chicken curry, told us boys now dontcha hurry
All the clocks in Petaluma all have broken down

So off we drove through mud and laughter, Brenda naked running after
Dylan take along some fruit, and Bobby you forgot your boots!

We started drinking in Mill Valley, stopped at Sausalito Sally's
She works at the No-Name Bar and gives us drinks for free

Crossed the Golden Gate and almost hit a drunken passing lamp post
Wonder if we got the brakes to hold against these hills

Stopped to have a drink at Perry's, broke my heart, broke up her marriage
Please believe me officer, I tripped and fell on top of her

I can't recall The Drinking Gourd, or being thrown out through the door
Of that Polk Street party that we weren't invited to

I met a beauty at Enrico's, I rent a cheapie room at Chico's
Find out she's a guy, well honey, since we already paid our money...

Tourists in the North Beach clip joint, Lady ??'s Broadway strip joint
Can you spare some change or would you like to buy a lid?

See the way the shuffle goes from Chinatown to porno shows
Feed the longhair street musicians dancing with the Hare Krishnas

Heading back to Mendocino 'cross the bridge through Sausalito
Two old desperados weaving through the falling rain

Bound to see our own ol' ladies, hug 'em up and kiss our babies
Crawl in bed and tell 'em, it's so good to be back home again

La lalalalallal, lalalallaal
Lalalalalalalalalalaaaaaaaaaaa

Michaelr, I am in awe!!

Things I hear differently:

In verse 1, "driving like THE falling rain"???

In verse 6, "I wonder if we've got...""

In verse 7, I hear "broke up a marriage"
I hear "Lady Restless Broadway Strip Joint," but I can't verify that. Another thing about that area, is that it was hard to tell whether the strippers were male or female....

I'll email Debby McClatchy and see if she has any corrections. She knows these things. Don't ask me why.

Could be "lady wrestlers."

No help from Debby McClatchy, but it was good to hear from her. Here's what she says:
Hi Joe; I'm so sorry; not a clue. Can't remember a club named "Lady" something, and I worked at most of them!! love, Deb

I really like "Lady Wrestlers," whether it's correct or not.

Debby McClatchy said she was there early on, in the heyday of North Beach. She says that later things got weird and kinky in an effort to keep the customers coming. She thinks the Lady Wrestlers must have come in that later era. I think my first visit to North Beach was on my honeymoon in 1971 - we went to a female impersonation show at Finoccio's. I think the folk music era of North Beach was more in the early 1960s.

I used to hear this played on Cannery Row in Monterrey in the mid 80's by a guitar player in Kalisa's. Haven't thought about it in a long time.

According to Bob Gibson's new official site at https://www.bobgibsonfolk.com, the club's name was "Lady Wrestler's".
