BS: Trounce Trump's Twitter

How can we trounce Trump's Twitter tripe?   (say 3 times)

We could buy it. It would cost between 14 to 24 billion. It is now 14 but a bid to buy a publicly owned corporation always raises the price.
Zuckerberg could afford it. Who else?

Here is the 'beauty part'. Buy it and ban Trump.

Ban him no matter how many times he tries to log in as himself or others.

Why do this?
There is no other comparable platform or alternative for Donald.
In fact yesterday he scared our gnarly generals in the Pentagon when he tweeted about the military - at first they suspected and feared the tweets were a preamble or declaration of WAR with North Korea.
Yes in some ways we would be doing him and Republicans a favor but the good may out weighs the bad.

Could a consortium of average people collectively buy Twitter for this purpose? Could Trump buy it for spite? Would Russia help him buy it?

Any or all Trump related comments are welcome
Maybe a consolidation of all Trump threads could begin.

Its curious how my wife and I woke up with this same twitter thought this morning.

My first thought was it may breach first amendment rights, but since that starts "Congress shall make no law" and congress would not be involved I doubt if a legal challenge to such ban could succeed on those grounds. However there may be parallels with clubs etc which might set a precident. You need to reserve a few million for a good lawywr.

Who else would you like to ban?
It wouldn't stop with Mr Duck would it?

If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear. Orwell

That goes for you as well as Trump, or, nobody

Using Capitalism to defeat autocratic rulers has worked before. (USSR)
Outbid the bastard like we outspent the USSR in the cold war.

I'd like to watch Trump struggle in anguish as he tried to log in.

When an autocrat turns America into a land of men instead of a land of laws, when a dictator puts himself above all law, when a King decrees himself the sole seat of Justice, when a President goes crazy but is protected by cruel corrupt men devoted to avarice,
other means may be used to regain the liberty that was lost.

This idea is akin to killing Goebbels in 1933 before the worst can happen. The tool for propaganda silenced and removed from Hitler's grasp, the radio broadcasts of shared hate turned off. Only Brietbart, Fox News and Nuremberg like rallies would remain.

The President cannot unilaterally declare war.

That is insightful Shakey but the "you" you speak of is not me but the people having a voice as in an election. An election still determined by cash but from the people.

The money we spend on pets is way over 60 billion.

And you're the one to decide are you Donuel?

Why don't you begin with Mudcat (it'll be cheaper) and you can ban all the people you don't like; would it still be worth coming to debate?

Oh and you'd better buy it quickly before someone else does and bans you.

Missiles can be launched in as little as 7 minutes.

And how many wars have we had without Congress declaring war?

As in a satellite delay... Once again Shakey that is perfectly insightful but the "you" you speak of is not me but the people having a voice as in an election. A popular vote we can win yet again.

JS Mill On Liberty:

"The peculiar evil of silencing the expression of an opinion is that it is robbing the human race; posterity as well as the existing generation; those who dissent from the opinion, still more than those who hold it. If the opinion is right, they are deprived of the opportunity of exchanging error for truth: if wrong, they lose, what is almost as great a benefit, the clearer perception and livelier impression of truth, produced by its collision with error."

I'll leave it there

I have heard the phrase that its a bit like putting your money where your mouth is. Better minds than mine can determine if this can be done with a bitcoin revolution or if this idea even has redeeming value.

If I had a seat at the shadow government table I would probably already have real time emergency editorial power over Trump's most dangerous tweets.

ol'John Stewart is a distant cousin on my Moms side if you count his brothers kids. I should set aside my personal satisfaction at the notion of telling Donald to shut the ef up and him actually doing so.

Many sins have been committed under the heading of National Security but it can be finally used for good in this situation.
No one feels good about being dead over holding lofty ideals compared to being alive by buying a small piece of Twitter.

Besides there was no instant Twitter in a mad mans hand in John Stewart Mill's day. Nor is it imposing absolute silence.

Shakey the sight of a Supreme Court with 9 Scalias grinning back at you would be scary would it not? That is the problem with originalism.

I don't know, Don, Twitter helped make him possible and it could be the rope that hangs him as well.

Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
Swirling clouds in violet haze
are mirrored in eyes of black and blue.
Now colors change their hue
Morning fields of amber grain
Weathered faces lined in pain
All set aflame with fission's heat
All from a vengeful tweet

not me

Similar point made by Thomas More in "A Man for All Seasons"

This country's planted thick with laws from coast to coast--man's laws, not God's--and if you cut them down...d'you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake."
― Robert Bolt,

I'll give Mr Duck his freedom of speech 'cause I want mine.

and yes, I'm pretty absolutist on this subject, for which I won't apologise but it's difficult to be nuanced without buggering about with html all day

eric the half a bee? no it was John.
Also there is the argument that Twitter harms Trump as is.
Having emergency psych moderation of his tweets via the 25th amendment would still be a crucial 7 second Defense Dept. asset to defend against our own President.

Twounce Twump's Twitter Twipe? Well, we could twy....

Seems to me, his use of Twitter for official communications, is far worse than Hillary's use of a private email server while she was Secretary of State.

Banning transgender soldiers by Twitter? Threatening North Korea by Twitter???

Lock him up!!!

Ok, I read that fundraiser page.
It seems they want to buy Twitter just to silence Trump.
But who will hold the control, and where will they stop?

Apologies to Niemuller.

i think the twitter is the best thing we've got going for us.

its a daily insight into the mind of a complete twat.

one day someone's going to make a fortune publishing a comedy classic called The Twittering of Trump.

perhaps i shouldn't be saying that - he's your president, god knows we've got enough idiots in English politics.

Let's not trounce Trump's twitter. It's a daily reminder that as a species we have collectively lost the plot. Trump is just one vocal symptom of our self-inflicted malaise of utter ignorance; a particularly inarticulate aide memoir for us all: MUST DO BETTER.

The old saying "give him enough rope to hang himself with" comes to mind so AFAIC let the birdie sing. Trump Jr. has his ass in a sling due to a tweet regarding his Russia meeting and if Donal Jerk Sr. ever winds up in a an impeachment proceeding and the consequential Senate trial some of his tweets will no doubt come back to bite him in the hind quarters as well.

Nigel that was FUNNY

Suppose Trump was made to actually obey Twitters rules.
He might have a tantrum and stroke out.
Would the Trump family sue Valerie Plame?

To Tweet my own horn I will point out that this Idea was posted by me a month before others began to think about it. Psychic? Naw, I just see the obvious coming from farthest away.

Re: Shakey's 11:29 post. If you have not read or seen the play King Charles III, do so ASAP. The bill they are discussing mirrors the play amazingly. The crisis occurs because the king has the integrity to try to protect Freedom of the Press from Parliament.

I'd rather be uncomfortable than censored. I hate what he says but I will defend to the death his right to Tweet it . . . until he steps completely beyond the rules of usage.
