14 Aug 17 - 05:53 AM (#3871550) Subject: RE: BS: Why did the vegan cross the road? From: Mr Red Homo Sapiens is an omnivore. Not quite as dependent on animal protein as felines but it is as much a conceit to exclude meat as it is to balloon on it. 2.5 million years of evolution should tell you, we became intelligent by finding and preparing nutritious and rich sources of food. And gorged rarely. Those that eschew medicines and processed foods should ..................... think vitamin B12 at least. Tablets are, of course, not processed, nor are bean curds. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Vegetarians and vegans may live longer but they, as a class (average), spend time looking at their intake. Whereas all others are lumped in with those that are less than careful with food (and life!). There is evidence that reduced intake (careful now) can extend life, and vegetarians/vegans have to eat far more bulk to get the same energy equivalent it probably serves as a reduced intake regimen. I know that dancing on a breakfast of porridge for a week makes one weak. One sausage roll before 12 seems to redress the balance. Peanut butter? Pahhhhhhhhhhhh. Not in my religion! |

14 Aug 17 - 09:50 AM (#3871593) Subject: RE: BS: Why did the vegan cross the road? From: Bill D It gets worse: now the poor vegans won't know which road to cross. Cauliflower 'rice'" " Cauliflower rice has been popping up in grocery freezer aisles and on the menu at restaurants nationwide, as an increasing number of health-conscious eaters look to curb their carb intake. The plant-based imitation food seems to be especially prevalent in Silicon Valley, where tech workers are cutting carbs and eating lots of fat in an attempt to lead longer, better lives. The rising popularity of the carb-light alternative to rice isn't making the rice industry happy. A rice lobby group said it may ask the US government to review its definition of rice in an effort to lessen the competition in cauliflower, Quartz reported. " |
14 Aug 17 - 02:00 PM (#3871632) Subject: RE: BS: Why did the vegan cross the road? From: Jon Freeman mm, initial quick search on this cauliflower rice told me "it is just like rice". We mostly use two rices here, basmati and arborio which, to me anyway, are sufficiently different to choose one to go with a curry and the other for a rissotto? |
