Dory Previn and Planet Blue

Hello Mudcat friends.   I've been looking for a recording and I'm wondering if anybody has access to it and could send me a download.

I was a great fan of Dory Previn in the early 70's....those first three albums were brilliant.

She died about 5 years ago, and I learned that in 2002 she had put together a royalty-free recording available via the internet entitled Planet Blue. I've looked for it......and the link that one is directed to for a free download no longer exists (in fact be careful....it puts a virus onto your hard drive).

I'm wondering if anybody ever downloaded it when it was available and, if so, if you have some idea how I could get a copy. I'm willing to buy it if necessary.

Anybody aware of it?   Thanks.

Blue Planet is a huge search term, it turns out. And Previn is no slouch. Good luck finding it.

I love Dory Previn, her songs were a great comfort to me a number of years ago. Interested in any further available material.

I opened this thread because I recall having heard of Dory Previn but had not actually heard her. After reading this I went to you tube for a listen and have listened for hours. What a brilliant songwriter. I know this does not help with your original query however, thank you so much for bringing this wonderful musician to my attention.

In 2002 Dory Previn released a royalty-free recording available via the internet entitled Planet Blue. This contains a mixture of recent and previously unreleased material dealing with environmental degradation and the threat of nuclear disaster.

Guest.......I'm so glad you've discovered the wonder of Dory Previn.   And GM Gough...yes that's the recording I'm wanting to get a copy of.....and I'm hoping another fan who did get that free download will find this thread and send me a copy!

Because my cookies weren't set, I wasn't able to get PM messages. But Joe showed me how to fix it.....and now I can get them. So hopefully, robomatic and GMGough, you can resend them?

Thanks so much to robomatic for offering me a copy, and for GMGOUGH for sending me one before I could respond to robomatic. I'm listening to it now. Depressing and powerful.....so great to hear Dory Previn's last recording.

I liked Dory Previn a lot when I last heard her, which was a heck of a long time ago.

If someone could PM me a download link for this one I'd appreciate it.

I've been a fan of Dory Previn since her albums first came out. I even have her solo album under the name of Dory Langdon but I have only recently heard of the Blue Planet album download. From what I could find, aside from the 28 minute Blue Planet track, there were 11 other unreleased songs on this album. I know if was a long time ago that you were on here but if you see this are you able to send me theses songs. I heard Blue Planet on Youtube and would love to hear the rest of these songs Thanks

Guest -- see this link. To download, click the dots along the right and select "download". You can split it into individual tracks using Audacity or some other free software if you have any preference.

You should see an image that looks like this:

in the center of your screen when you open the archive.org link. Left click the 3 stacked dots along the far right of the music player.

When I cclick on the archive.org link that you sent me, I get a totally different music player than the one that you just showed me. The one I get has the folowing from left to right: a button that takes me back 15 seconds, the play/pause button, a button that takes me ahead 15 seconds, the current playing time, the progress bar, the total time, speaker volume, and a button that looks like this >> which allows me to choose a playback speed. There are no 3 dots to click on. Maybe archive.org has changed their music player

You must be using a different web browser than me, I've tested it and downloaded it without issue. If there are no dots, try right clicking on the audio player and seeing if there is a "save as" or save audio option.

If that STILL doesn't work, create a free account here and PM me your email and I'll split it up for you. Or try opening it in Google Chrome, that's what's worked for me

Wow, fantastic, thanks. it worked ok in Chrome and I've downloaded it. When you said you would split it up for me, does that mean that the 28 minute Planet Blue is actually all eleven songs combined into one? I thought the other 11 songs were different.

Subject: RE: Dory Previn and Planet Blue
From: cnd

What I mean by splitting it up is that all the tracks of the album are currently condensed into one track -- you have to listen to it or finally, and can't pick a random song out of it. If you only listen to an album all the way through, it's a non-issue, however if you ever want to pick a specific song out, you'd have to split the one 28 minute track into however many individual songs there are

ok, thanks cnd. So if I create an account, you can split it for me?

After listening through it more carefully, I don't think the album is actually meant to be broken into multiple pieces. Though some sites do split the song into sub-tracks (kind of like movements in classical music), they're informal divisions of the same one long track. It's all just one song. Sorry for any confusion.

After listening to it last night, I agree. Thanks again for all your help, I never thought I would have this album.

I've been looking for the best quality download that I can find of Planet Blue, but it seems that the 256kbps version that was available via http://dory.willcurtiss.com/ until... a few years ago is now no longer hosted.

The best I have found that is still downloadable is the 128 kbps bitrate version here - https://rocktorch.com/audio/dory-previn-planet-blue.mp3 - but I'm after the 256 kbps version as that would be rather more listenable.

I'm not after the youtube version, looking for the best quality file to download (and possibly archive at archive.org so other people don't have to suffer quite so much to get it!)

Thanks so much in advance.
