15 Oct 17 - 06:22 AM (#3882349) Subject: RE: Rocket FM Lewes -Folk & World Music From: Vic Smith Thank you, Mike, You are correct. It is Monday 16th at 7pm. I'm rushing round like nothing on earth this weekend as an organiser of Lewes Folk Festival with masses of events to oversee and the programme preparation has suffered as a result, High spot so far has been the sold-out concert headed by Jackie Oates last night. What a lovely person and performer she is! Today we look forward the another sold out event - the first concert by Shirley Collins in her home town since her return to singing but there are two other events that I have to set up and compere before then. Must rush..... |
16 Oct 17 - 03:52 AM (#3882492) Subject: RE: Rocket FM Lewes -Folk & World Music From: Mr Red excellent playlist. Because he comes from Bromyard, I have seen Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne develop from a child prodigy to an accomplished performer. At events before & during the festival. He joined forces pretty quickly with a couple of equally accomplished musicians - a very smart move and I would guess his father advised him on that. All three are now graduates of music school. And they do the tradition proud by singing it, and composing wonderful stuff. Granny's Attic. |

17 Oct 17 - 04:22 AM (#3882696) Subject: RE: Rocket FM Lewes -Folk & World Music From: Will Fly An individuals?s playlist - as opposed to one produced via a corporation - is essentially personal choice, whatever anyone else thinks of it. When I listed the tracks in my 2009 ?Spotify? thread, I listed just the stuff I personally liked, and gave no thought whatsoever to representation by genre, gender, etc. Vic is, presumably, listing the stuff that appeals to him personally. I like some of what?s on it, and am not particularly bothered about the rest. My choice, and neither I nor Vic need to answer to anyone for that choice. My advice: get a slot on a local radio station, select your playlist - and go for it. |
17 Oct 17 - 04:28 AM (#3882700) Subject: RE: Rocket FM Lewes -Folk & World Music From: Will Fly I?ll just add one illustration of what I mean. If I was compiling a playlist of folk stuff, my gues is that there would be more male artists than female artists. If I was compiling a playlist of jazz and blues stuff, my guess is that the female artists would vastly outnumber the males. Horses for courses - and my personal choices. |
17 Oct 17 - 05:26 AM (#3882710) Subject: RE: Rocket FM Lewes -Folk & World Music From: Vic Smith The advice from Mudcat is not to respond to provocative statements by the so-called 'GUEST' posters who are hiding their true identity and gender. Seeking a response that tries to justify, shows anger or irritation is the aim of such posters. Advice from Joe Offer is Don't feed the troll! and that is what I will always do. |

Many more details of that in the interview. That should take us into the second hour of the programme when I will turn my attention to looking back at the very successful Lewes Folk Festival on the weekend of the 13 - 15th October and I will be playing lots of tracks from artists who took part in that.
