Thornton took over leadership pf the band on the death of his brother-in-law Albert Hash over thirty years ago. He will be greatly missed He leaves behind his wife Emily, Daughter Martha and son Kilby all multi instrumentalists who carry on the sound and spirit of the White Top Mountain area sound. |

Emily is a fine banjo player while Kilby and Martha are both great fiddlers in their turn, as well as playing other string band instruments. His is a sad loss to the Old Time community. |
