Subject: Easter 2018 ?FOLK UP THE MOORS!
From: Mr Happy

[Free DIY Music & Song Sessions Event]

The 9th glorious year's grand venture in wild Wales presented by Mr Happy enterprises will be taking place once again this Easter at The Sportsmans Arms Inn on Denbigh Moors, North Wales.

At Easter, Mr Happy & the Gloom Band [from Chester] plus many other musical friends, will be off to the Sportsman?s Arms Inn, LL16 5SW [01745 550406] for our annual singing & music event ?
http://www.sportsmansarmsinn.wales/

It'll be on from Maundy Thursday 29th March until Tuesday 3rd April 2018

It?s set up just like a folk festival but without any concerts or stuff you have to pay for.

Also ?cause everything?s on site, there?s no need to wander the streets looking for a session.

The Sportsman?s is a venue which can offer up to 3 separate rooms/ areas for different sorts of seshes ? singarounds, folk club, mad Irish diddly thrash, seriously non-smiling English music, dreary French tunes, Old Timey/ Bluegrass, maudlin unaccompanied dirges, etc

[Please note that this event is not a Folk Festival. There are no paid acts.
All music & song is unamplified & purely acoustic]

All welcome - come on down - it'll be brill!!

The campsite will be available from Thursday 29th March until Tuesday 3rd April 2018

It?s a DIY do- bring yourselves, voices, instruments ,your tents, vans, caravans & kitchen sink!

It's all FREE!!

FREE camping! - Big field overlooking Denbigh Moors, for tents, caravans etc

No need to book camping, just turn up.

Up to 3 separate rooms available for various types of music & song
+ outside beer garden overlooking the hills & lake.

Session/Singaround Thur nite/Fri nite/Sat afternoon & evening/Sun afternoon & evening
- either in pub or on campsite, weather permitting.

Similar on bank holiday Monday, if many left [or haven't left!]

Campsite facilities include cold water tap!!

& cold water WC - not to be missed!!!

Breakfasts & hot meals available at the pub.

Some additional hardstanding for caravans/ campervans at rear of pub.

Mr. Happy,

Just an inquiry passed on from a rather worried and confused Moor, is all, though it might as well have been in Moor's Code, as the Shakespeare reference managed to escape you....

I'll try to be less Moorish in the future.......

(I used to do Singaround weekends last century at Tan Hill, Highest pub in Britain it says on my fleece.)

JHW - afaik yes, it is the highest pub in Wales.

I checked these a few years ago when we did a bike ride to the highest nine English pubs...
Wales :
1490ft Sportsmans Arms LL16 5SW
1390ft Racehorse Inn NP7 0PU
1370ft Lamb & Fox NP4 9SS
1330ft Tafarn ty Uchaf NP22 4HG
then lots more in Blaenavon, Brynmawr & the hills round about. -About 30 above 1100ft & another 30 above 1000ft
(open in a browser, landscape, not 'maps')

Latest news from Leon Gierke, the landlord at The Sportsmans Arms Inn.

The new gate for the camp field is in now, so although the entrance way will be as before, the exit will be via the new gate, situated downhill & onto the road.

This should alleviate the difficulties experienced last year in getting vehicles & caravans off the site.

Additionally, extra amounts of hardcore are being laid down to further aid traction.

As Easter's earlier this year, it coincides with the lambing season. Consequently, we may not have full use of the barn.

However, Leon tells me he has a plan to accommodate this contingency.

Watch this space for further bulletins.

During the gathering, there'll be chances to spot many famous but incognito mystery guests.

Some of these include the elusive & rarely glimpsed a cappella ensemble; The Heartsouls, whose close harmony arrangements can be experienced in one of their special presentations of 'Our Sing About' - not to be missed!

There'll also be fleeting sightings of the Myserichords performing some of their mad wriggles - a popular pastime amongst courting couples in the 15th century. You've never seen anything like it!

In addition, darting about hither & thither, will be Mr Happy & the Gloom Band, ably demonstrating how traditional folksongs & tunes should be appropriately enacted, ie, no laughing or smiling nor any displays of enjoyment such as rhythmic swaying, giggles or titters - only kidding!! ;-)
It's not long now [as the actress said to the bishop] I'll get me coat!

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR CAMPERS: DRINKING WATER
The pub's water has a slight yellowish tinge as it comes from its own underground well but is perfectly safe to drink and the well water is tested regularly by Welsh Water to ensure its quality.

Paula Roscoe It doesn't really say who is playing, only what type and three rooms to choose. We have a daughter with autism and it is her birthday weekend - sadly for us, we can't just turn up and hope there is someone playing or there is plenty to keep her engaged...See more

Subject: RE: Easter 2018 - Folk Up the Moors
From: Mr Happy

From Leon Gierke, landlord of Sportsmans Arms:

After 5 months of snow and rain the field doesn't look great!

I've kept animals off it but the relentless weather has taken its toll!

There is stone down on the entrances and people with 4x4s and tents are free to use the fields.

At the moment I wouldn't advise anyone without a 4x4 or anyone with a heavy caravan to enter the field unless its dry for a good couple of days leading up to arrival.

I say we sensibly pack the car park, the drive in front of the pub and use the layby 200 meters past the pub (many can fit there).

I'm happy to open the field and also help tow caravans etc on and off the field if people want to.

Be assured I've tried everything to get the field accessible and will continue to do so. Tonight I will be looking for temporary field mats to use so i will get back to you about that.

A reminder to everyone coming to pack in as much as possible would be great.

On a positive note......ive loads of really good cask ales in!
