24 Jan 18 - 02:09 PM (#3901521) Subject: Lyr Req: IF THE WORLD ISN'T THERE (Bert Jansch) From: Jim Dixon Here's my transcription from YouTube: IF THE WORLD ISN'T THERE As recorded by Bert Jansch on "Nicola" (1967) Don't ev'rythin' seem to be so confused: A puzzle of promise to be? But why should I care If the world isn't there no more? If people would only sit down and think I'm sure they would be happier, But they do not care If the world isn't there no more. One half of the world seems to be in love With images cast for a play. Tell me how would they act If the world wasn't there no more? Come bring me a drink of that ruby wine To lubricate all of my bounds; But who can be sure if the liquor is pure When the world isn't there no more? And if I was the father of six children How could I be sure they were mine? All the women in hell I'm sure couldn't tell If the world wasn't there no more. Come show me a man who is satisfied With money to buy anything. Tell me what could he buy down in here for a dime: Horns for his head or a tail for behind, While he could buy flames to burn nothing but air, When the world isn't there, When the world isn't there No more? |

25 Jan 18 - 05:37 AM (#3901635) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: If the World Isn't There (Bert Jansch) From: GUEST,Frankie Dear Jim There is another one of Bert´s great songs of which I do not understand the lyrics. I can play it on guitar but I like to sing it as well. If you have time and could help me another time I would be very pleased. It is on "When the circus comes to town" and has the name LIVING IN THE SHADOWS. He sings it on a youtube video. Best regards Frankie |

This was much harder; there are several phrases I'm unsure about, that don't make sense to me as I have given them, but this is the best I can do. Maybe someone else can make corrections. I heard it on Spotify. I also listened to the video on YouTube but it didn't help much. LIVING IN THE SHADOWS As recorded by Bert Jansch on "When the Circus Comes to Town" (1995) Livin' in the shadows When the light of day has gone In a crazy game played on the empty streets A shootin' gallery In a fairground in the sun It's what's by viewin' millions(?) Threaded high a much too soon(?) But by justice fools and hypocrites In a car marked foolery For the whole damned world to see CHORUS: You gotta run through the city Keep your head down; don't be seen Look out to the bridge deck All is quiet; so serene Thunder cracks the silence It's an epic tale to tell They're gonna charge you a pretty penny now To enter the gates of hell They got a red-hot tale to sell They brought in a cast of thousands Flown in from Hollywood They got all the names; they're gonna make a star Out of paper, out o' wood He looks terrific; yeah, he's lookin' good In circles, spinnin' circles Goin' round an' 'round an' 'round They're runnin' wild and full of empty words Like a spinnin' carousel With no horses to be found REPEAT CHORUS |
