BS: Trump/ Turnbull Press Conference

It's still going as I type this up. Turnbull is just now being asked the question I would have asked, the Australian response to the 1996 mass shooting, which was to coordinate a reduction in the firearms count in the private sector. Turnbull seems to have responded forthrightly but has emphasized that the 'context' of Australian life versus the United States is profoundly different. Good answer, from his point of view.
Trump is full of his usual blandishments, making most things self-referential.

BBC News ran the confrontation full length for all the survivors and families, then as Trump indicated ge was going to give his response, it cut away to other news. Rather elegant way of dealing with the man, I thought.

Hearing the young people and parents say their pieces was moving. Listening to Trump in that context would have felt like a real false note, degrading a significant occasion. We could read what he had to say in our own time- and it didn’t amount to much, and indicated the BBC had been quite right.

What I can't understand is in light of Trump's prior interactions with him why Trumbull didn't tell tRUMP to stick it up his ass.

It's embarrassing to listen to this. Can we blame some other country for this Trump guy? Russia, maybe? After all, he's Putin's puppet, isn't he?

I sure don't like Trump's promotion of "merit-based immigration," after a long history of "need-based immigration." And it seems that Turnbull thinks the same way.

Seems to me that Turnbull is Trump's kinda guy. I don't think I'd like him any better than I dislike Trump. There is an influx of right-wing leaders all over the world. The same thing happened in the 1980s, when Reagan and Thatcher and other right-wingers were in power.

I think we've got a bigger problem than right-wingers. We've got people attacking Democracy by outright subversion/ confiscation where we didn't before.

Turkey - Erdogan
Poland - Whoever is stacking the Supreme Court
Philippines - Duterte, an outright killer with active killing squads. As far as I can tell, legitimately elected.
Ukraine - Even without the Russians, major corruption in government and the military
Venezuela - A once healthy Democracy subverted and impoverished by poor philosophy aided by corruption and incompetence, a perfect storm.
