The recycling trucks will no doubt be pleased. There are somewhere between 850-900, with about 20-25 yet to do. Here is a link to my Google Drive page.... more to be added soon. Bill's Beer Collection The first 25 pics are a dozen at a time, taken with my older camera, which wasn't as good, and the lighting in the storage area required flash, which gave some streaks in places, but 'most' items are recognizable. Some beers were wonderful, some were tolerable, and some were.... other. There are some very nice items from the UK, brought to me by friends who came to the FSGW Getaway, and some from various parts of the world that I just happened to find locally. But 60-70% are just US beers... and for the last 20 of the 40 years, I have been totally unable to keep up with even trying to sample much of the wildly expanding craft beers people are producing..... Comments welcome, as long as they aren't the old "US beers are dishwater" stuff... we now have almost any style that competes favorably with the best from all over the world. NO ONE can 'quite' match some of the Belgian Abbey Ales...but...) |

I knew a guy who collected anything...but he owned a shop to display them. You do see a few things like an old Budweiser can there, but I have not tasted anything like that for over 20-25 years. Raggytash... I ummm... have my tankards and whiskey bottles also, but far fewer... besides, I make wooden tankards and only have 8-9 other types. I suppose I have 6-7 partial bottles of single malt Scotch and 2 of Irish (Tullamore Dew) and have recently tossed several empties because there was just no space. Nope... no Old Speckled Hen. Can't have everything... but I do have Spingo and Riggwelter Ale!... and one from New Zealand. |

My good Lady has asked over the years "what the hell do you want all that whisky for" My standard reply was that I was saving it all for my dotage, I've got there now and I still can't resist buying other bottles. I may stop when I get to 50 single malts .......... I may !!! |

Thankfully he outgrew both by the time he went away to college. Now he collects guitars. |

I have over 200 miniatures not all whisky but various spirits and liquers. There is an interesting shop in Compton St (Soho) with a few miniature that are priced at more than I would normally pay for 70 cl of single malt ! |

The only saving grace was the invention of digital cameras, so I could afford to photograph them before disposing of them. Slides or prints would have cost as much as the beer. |

If the collection is that big "buyer collects" would sort the postage or if they buyer was keen the carriage would not be an issue for a keen collector. Collectors would buy just to get the ones they didn't have. Now what would a collection of 4 leaf clovers be worth? How many you ask? If you are keen - get in touch. |

The UK Gov (in the guise of Gove) is promising to introduce a bottle tax that will be re-funded when you return the empty bottles and cans. Other countries have it. They are worried about plastic waste in the ocean, but it would clean up our streets a bit. As kids we picked up littered bottles & took back the "empties" - making a bit of pocket money. Would this be an easy (and lucrative) way to dispose? Remember deposits on bottles? There is nothing new on this earth! It just gets re-package like (eg) home grocery deliveries and trams (street cars)! |
