Fleetwood Mac: new scene, old drama

OOOPS sorry!! hit wrong button at wrong time ...

You win a few, you lose a few.
It was a big deal for Christine [née Perfect] MacVie to resume touring with Fleetwood Mac after years away, and at her age (seventy years or more?).
Who in the band didn't at least respect, even cherish, Christine MacVie?

Christine MacVie is still there;
now Fleetwood Mac has parted ways with Lindsay Buckingham.
There have been statements from Mick Fleetwood
and a tweet or two from ... others.
No doubt there will be a statement from Buckingham
but at this instant one has yet to be released publicly.

Rolling Stone, one of the news pronouncers here, cites disagreements
over Fleetwood Mac's upcoming tour as the reason for the departure.
Some sources actually say Buckingham was "fired."

Neil Finn, of Crowded House, along with the Tom Petty/Heartbreakers lead guitarist whose name I can never remember (sorry)
are both joining Fleetwood Mac in the wake of Buckingham leaving.

There will, I guess, be more comments or news to come.

O can search for it, but your post has no context. What are you talking sbout, the Queen of Ireland? What did you read where?

Ohh, I see Bob Lefsetz just wrote on the same topic. Must be something about it on the interwebs.

Mike Campbell is the Heartbreaker, brilliant songwriter and guitarist.

Real shame this. Mick Fleetwood might think that the new band is unmistakably Fleetwood Mac, but there's little doubt Buckingham is a huge part not only of the sound but also the spirit of the band. I saw them some years ago and they were superb, and I'd be pretty irked if I'd stumped up for tickets and the line-up changes. Would have been good.

The opening post has no links, clicky or otherwise,
although one news source, Rolling Stone, is name-checked.

I just tried to link to Billboard but it didn't work.

Rolling Stone: -- fires Lindsay Buckingham

Variety: Lindsay Buckingham Leaves

and there are a few more

And, since Bob Lefsetz was name-checked,
this post will attempt
to link to his op-ed piece.

Not quite.
The link goes to the Lefsetz Letter page index,
you can take it from there.
(I tried, honest.)

Who's this Lindsay woman? Where's Peter at?

Gillymor, your point is made.

As a US native, I missed the Peter Green iteration completely when it was happening, even though Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac toured the US at the time. I just never heard them nor of them.

Years later I would listen for the first time to
Albatross, Oh Well both parts, The Green Manalishi, Man of the World.
To find out what I had missed. I was genuinely shaken.

Last time I saw a photograph of Peter Green, within the last eighteen months or so,
he was smiling, and missing at least one upper front tooth.
That was on the Peter Green And Friends Facebook page.

In the meantime, Lindsay is a man and Stevie is a woman.

Saw Peter Green play with his Splinter Group. Triffic he was.

Hmmmmm. Peter Green doesn't figure?

There have been changes over the years and they seem to make good music despite/because of it.

Though IMNSHO it's not as if Mr Buckingham was an Albatross - Oh Well! Don't Stop thinking About Tomorrow.

And we can be sure Chritine McVie was perfect (I'll get my coat)

four in one post - not bad TISIMS

All these inter-personal politics, relationship fall outs, and scandals, in such a vintage band of 'elderly' musicians...

Probably explains why one of my all time favourites, "The Archies", haven't toured for so many decades...???

I believe it was you, Mr. Red,
who recalled attending a 1972 Fleetwood Mac performance --
and walking out?

I heard the first edition of Fleetwood Mac in 1969, walking across Kensington Gardens to the stage at the 2nd Hyde Park concert, with "Albatross" floating across the park. Wonderful!

Bye-bye Lindsey, and take Stevie with you, too. Those two ruined the Mac for me, just like Michael McDonald did with the Doobies. Sellout for FM hits.

Well, Christine MacVie might object to Stevie leaving, because
the two ladies are, and always have been, close and supportive.

Yea, they spent 15 minutes crashing another act with assembling kit/tuning, then we waited for similar eternity looking at a curtain as they tuned up, and after one song they were chatting to someone in the audience for maybe only 2 minutes, but seemed longer. I guess you could say I don't like disdain for the audience.

Ya can't do that to the public on a recording.

I think that was 1968 for the Hyde Park concert, Will. Magic times, but on the day I was more blown away by Roy Harper, an enthusiasm that hasn't dimmed with the years.

Quite right, RD - 68 it was. As I recall, Roy Harper turned up on the day and wiggled his way in to the concert. From memory (obviously failing...), there were also Ten Years After and Family. August 1968. I was wearing my flared, birds-eye check, green trousers, Bally boots and flowered shirt with enormous collars.

1968. Bloody hell...50 years ago...

And the drama goes on.

In August, we had an update from Mick Fleetwood, to which I can't link for some reason.
and now, both sides are lawyering up.

Although the original incarnation had Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer, the very best version of Fleetwood Mac was driven by Green and the late Danny Kirwan. Sadly we can never see see that again.
