Subject: Lyr Add: I'M LOOKING OVER MY DEAD DOG ROVER
From: Chris/Darwin
The recent thread about "Rover" had me rolling in the isles. The only problem was, that as a performance piece, it went a bit stale after the first verse. Consequently - and here it comes - I tried a few variations, and ended up putting in a middle bit. Since first performing it, there have even been requests to play it again - unusual for me! Here goes:
DEAD DOG SONG
I'm looking over my dead dog Rover That I hit with my ride-on mower One led is mangled, another is gone The third one is scattered all over the lawn No need explaining, the one remaining Is spinning 'cross the carport floor I'm looking over my dead dog Rover, that I overlooked before
Once I had a dog his name was Rover He barked and played and dug my garden bed Now he's neither older nor much wiser You can't dig up my garden when you're dead
That was my dog my friend, I thought he'd never end He chewed my shoe, my slipper and my thong He pooped upon the lawn, but now alas he's gone He lives forever only in this song
I'm looking over my dead dog Rover Who has cast off this mortal coil He's no longer barking, no balls does he chase His pieces are scattered all over the place There's no need explaining, there's no dog remaining He's a part of the lawn you see I'm looking over my dead dog Rover Who I sent to eternity
I am going on leave for a couple of weeks, ending up at the Woodford FF on the 28th. Happy Christmas Katters, my your festivities be safe and loving. See you in the New Year.
Regards Chris
