BS: Capt. Obvious

All politics are extremely local.
Policy is a flexible thing whose guidelines are based on interpersonal slights, attacks and insensitivities just like the motivations of white house leakers. Jim, think first of the time and dedication of moderators as a sacrifice. If your only reward is criticism, you will get that in return. To have a friend you must be a friend. I would think putting out the same fires would become wearisome for even the most tireless firefighters.

...and then there is money...

Yet I would not want you to compromise your steadfast integrity.

now for something obviously different.
When Senate Republicans acknowledge the obvious they agree how much fun it will be to burn at the stake.

The USA has the most dynamic reality show of a new school shooting every week this year. (22) 2018
This week the fatalities are fewer than 10 so it is no where near the record for mass shootings however the shooter is getting originality points for pulling a fire alarm to maximize targets.

The remains of one victim was under 42kg so she was indeed a small price to pay for freedom that isn't free but with profits thru the roof.
With sports betting now legal for states to decide it won't be long before the sport of school shootings will obviously attract lots of bets.

The long shot bet is still the Vegas record holder at 60 fatalities
The trifecta bet of guessing the State, type of school and the number of dead is still unclaimed.

GOOD LUCK

A student marched in to Art class and began shooting.
OBVIOUSLY
Art will be banned

Its obvious that Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell are Death Eaters and support gunning down students.

The post about Art class reminds me
of the glorious fable
The Green Isle of the Great Deep,
featuring the characters
Young Art and Old Hector,
written by Neil M. Gunn.

In which Art is persecuted and narrowly avoids dying.

I bet this had an influence on AK Rowling.

Just a caveat regarding The Green Isle of the Great Deep.
This book was preceded by the book,
Young Art and Old Hector.
In this earlier book,
Young Art was perhaps eight years old, and his upbringing
was kind of stern, a very poor Scottish family working hard
near the shore and out in the country. He was getting picked on.
Enter the widower, Old Hector, with one maiden daughter living in and worrying after him.
Old Hector seems unflappable and a fount of knowledge.
He calms Young Art down and makes everyday life bearable again.

The Green Isle of the Great Deep turns this all inside out.
In this strange realm, there are people who have died on earth
and are living a sort of ever-after existence.
Although God is not far, He is mostly dreaming His creation, and it takes something rather momentous to wake Him up.
In God's absence, the men in power have become totalitarians,
dedicated to the life of the mind, and utterly heartless.
They oppress the people sorely.

And I find I am haunted, long after reading, by what befalls Old Hector.
Oh, he and Young Art return, all right, to the real world.
But whilst in this other realm,
they are at the mercy of conditions there.
Young Art goes quite wild, and in doing so, he saves himself mostly;
there are citizens who treasure him and guard him covertly.
But Old Hector, giving himself up to the authorities,
is interrogated, and broken! Little is left to the imagination.

We are given to understand that what befalls Old Hector
is not to single the old man out,
it is what every Green Isle citizen is threatened with.
It is when Old Hector surprises everyone, under interrogation,
by demanding to see God, that everything turns around.

The totalitarians are all too human, and as much as they abuse their powers,
they know that if God wakes up, it is all over for them ...

and, in time, Old Hector has his audience with God Himself,
who startles Old Hector by speaking Scottish Gaelic
like the elders of Old Hector's youth.

Not light airy-fairy stuff, this ...
of course, I will read it again.
After I recover.

A Fabulous tale, thank you. Americanizing this legend could be great.

It is obvious that if all American parents pulled their children from school, the movies, from walking outside, from going to a church, from country music concerts etc. the likelihood of being killed by active shooters would diminish. Right now US kids face an 89% likelihood of being shot compared to the rest of the westernized nations.

It was obvious that our war with Japan featured a lack of respect for human life. It is obvious now that the gun lobby is blaming an American lack of respect for human life as a cause of mass shootings.
If you are in a gun lobby it is obvious that everything in the world is respondsible for mass shootings except guns.

The counter argument is often incorrect for believing the exact opposite arguments that guns are the only bad.

It is obvious only a compromise will respect the life of children.

It is obvious that shooting violence in the US pales in popularity below the line compared to what goes down Steve Shaw's giant gustatory gullet.

Sod politics? Hear no evil see no evil speak of no evil, is obviously good for evil. As Trump's approval rises no one enjoys speaking about Donald but you have to. Sealed lips was good for Hitler if it was out of fear or obedience.

It's so sad to observe the comments from Texas.
Gun-control activism: NOT.
The survivors and their families will not stick their necks out.

The NRA trained gun advocate/victims are schooled in the all or nothing, slippery slope domino theory.

Eventually they will be willing to trade democracy for the freedom only Trump can grant.

The state of Connecticut, where the Newtown/Sandy Hook mass shooting took place,
now has teachers being trained to use firearms.

In Ohio, athletics coach Frank Hall,
who intervened during the Chardon High School shooting,
champions School Resource Officers
but is opposed to teachers being armed in the classroom.

And in Massachusetts, the state legislature is meeting as we speak,
to vote on a new bill which is unofficially referred to as
the "red-flag" law:
targeting gun purchasers/owners with records of mental health problems.

In Massachusetts,
the red flag bill has passed the state legislature House
and now goes to the state Senate.

In Colorado,
such a measure passed the state House and failed in the state Senate.

In North Carolina,
the state House Speaker sent the bill to the House Rules Committee.

Great ideas are often replaced by obvious bad ideas

Some obvious no brainer ideas regarding location location location of nuclear power plants is building 5 in a Tsunami zone which is only slightly smarter than putting one on an active volcano in HAWAII

The lava is 300 yards away right now.

And a similar bill passed the state House of Representatives
in Rhode Island this week.

Mental health judged by preliminary factors of which everyone seems surprised only after the crime?
guns don't kill people, people kill people?

its not video games or the number of doors or the media
A red flag is feeble compared to the availability of guns

btw the lava is closer to the geothermal plant - not a nuclear plant.
sorry
