This programme started ten minutes ago,and the presenter, Rita Ray, won't blooming shut up. She's covering Nigeria and Yoruba drumming/traditions, but one can hardly hear the music as she talks over the entire thing. She's also sticking her head in front of the camera at every opportunity.
The programme should be re-named 'Rita Ray All About Herself'
I'm absolutely fuming, I've been looking forward to this for ages. Grrrr!

Oh dear I've been looking forward to that too. Going to watch it on catch up but thanks for the warning!

I enjoyed it. Her ebullience complemented the excitement of the music.

You're right of course Modette, she's an interesting character, and very knowledgeable (disc jockey) However I was hoping for a programme which consisted chiefly of African music, not about her connections/old record collections etc with/of various Nigerian performers and famous musicians, and with a lot less of her Talking Head!

I've noticed a tendency these days for TV programmes not to allow the viewer to view in peace. There have to be other intrusive additions, which I find irritating and distracting.

Next Friday she's tackling the music of South Africa. There are more in the series but I can't discover which regions she's including.
I bet Mali is one. My husband's tribe (the Senoufo) is originally from Mali, and Mali has a huge musical history and scope. But if she keeps rabitting on, she'll spoil it for me!

She mentioned Mali at the beginning of the programme.

Next week, South Africa then Mali. I found the programme very interesting though many of Nigeria's traditions seemed to be swamped by American influences to the extent that you can't hear the African element. The first part of the programme where it was tradition caught my ear more than the later show business.
