10 Jun 18 - 02:16 PM (#3930152) Subject: June Press Room [NH] ShantySing-Memorial From: Bat Goddess The June Press Room Shanty, Forebitter, and Foc's'l Ballad and Memorial Session-In-Exile will be this Saturday, June 16th from 3:30 to 7:30 at the Continental Restaurant & Bar -- just north of Dover 2 blocks from the intersection of Rtes. 108 and Rte. 9. See previous threads for address and directions. There's plenty of FREE parking, handicapped access, lots of seating, good acoustics, Guinness on draft, and Chinese food and buffet. We're in the function room just off the bar -- turn left at the saltwater aquarium, then turn right into the function room. This will be our traditional Memorial Session -- remembering the founder of our session, Tom Hall (Mudcat's Curmudgeon) as well as Barry Finn, David Behm (best known for his renditions of "Barrett's Privateers" and "Capital Ship"), Jay Smith who inspired the session, and Danny Spooner, Danny Macleod, and Louisa Jo Killen who joined us at The Press Room sessions when they were in the area or performing at the Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival. I really hope we'll have a good turnout to honor those singers who were such an important part of our sessions and of the Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival (PMFF). Please join us in keeping the songs they sang alive! Hope to see you then! Linn |

17 Jun 18 - 03:53 PM (#3931490) Subject: RE: June Press Room [NH] ShantySing-Memorial From: Bat Goddess According to various other sources, Ushant to Scilly is either 34 or 45 leagues. Of course it all gets confuzzled because a nautical league is 3.45234 miles or 3 nautical miles. On land a league is 3 miles...but the length of a mile varies by where it's being measured and by what year it was. Linn |

And our server keeping us from dying of thirst was Annie. I think I sang only songs that were part of Tom Hall's (Curmudgeon's) repertoire. 19 Jun 18 - 08:06 PM (#3932004) Subject: RE: June Press Room [NH] ShantySing-Memorial From: GUEST,Don Hale A fun session, as always. And now I no longer have to wonder how far it is from Ushant to Scilly! I'm sticking with 34 Leagues, per the version I usually sing ("Spanish Ladies", Roud 687). The Finn & Haddie website appears to have disappeared in one of those North East storms. However, as usual, I ended up poking around the "inter-web" for a while and found a link to the original Finn & Haddie Index of Lyrics from the "Fathom This" Recording. The links still work to access the lyrics, who knows for how much longer. Here is the link to the Index: http://www.finnandhaddie.com/lyrics.php P.S. I've never gotten my clicky to turn blue! Just cut & paste in the browser. Don |

I refer to it almost every month. I'm going to copy the lyrics now into a folder on my desktop just in case something untoward happens to the page. Linn |
