Add Travelling Folk to your list, as well as Mr Anderson's Fine Tunes, but they are all being slowly squeezed out in favour of more chat and sports shows! That's one bias.
The other, to which I think GM may be alluding is the very London/Westminster-centric view of everything. Sadly we have to have a very major fire to make the Beeb's "national" news.

I'm only interested in the music, yes Travelling Folk should be added.

"the very London/Westminster-centric view of everything"

I don't think Radio Scotland can be accused of that. It's not that long ago that programmes such as "Good Morning Scotland" and "News Drive" were offered as examples as to how a "Scottish Six" might work on BBC TV.

If Radio Scotland news programmes also refuse to give The SNP and their supporters a free rein for all their nonsense then I'm quite supportive of this too.

Getting back to the subject of music

is well worth a listen too for good music.

The link henryp posted last year should bring these up, including the Irish ones?

translation ...? my tablet used to offer translations but it isn't for that radionangaidheal page.
JohnnyJ are you able to check if it's listing the ones you'd recommend?

I just linked to the site but it's also available on DAB, and FM: 103.5-105 MHz. Also on Freeview before BBC Alba starts.

As far as specific programmes go, I don't really know their schedule that well but there's often very good Scottish and Gaelic music and song to be heard plus other more general folkie stuff.

It usually merges with Radio Scotland in the evening. So no need to change stations for the shows mentioned above either.

But it's impossible to recognise music programmes in the schedule, being in Gaelic or whatever, this my question - is there a translation anywhere?

I think no is the answer - Scottish arrogance perhaps???

Come on Bonzo, it must be possible to pick up enough Gaelic for that not to be a problem. I think I could manage this in most European languages, though I cannot say I speak any of them.

It's a Gaelic Radio Station.

Radio Two doesn't provide a translation for Gaelic speakers, so why should Radio nan Gàidheal need to do so for English speakers?

Depending on how interested I was, I would find some way of finding out what all the programmes were but, as far as I'm concerned, it's just a nice station to switch on and there's usually good music to be heard at different times of the day.

Over the years, I've tuned into many European stations just to listen to music but I never expected an English translation.

You can go to the website and paste the programme descriptions Google Translate.

Ref Johnny J's remark at 18th June 10.20.am:
I thought I had made it quite clear that I was not talking about local radio or TV, i.e. Radio Scotland or BBC Scotland news, but about the UK news programmes, which are very biased all too frequently.
But as Bonzo says, this thread is about music, so I'll say no more, other than to commend those great programmes we do get on BBC Radio Scotland and other local stations such as Celtic Music Radio (Glasgow-based but also available online.)

Sorry, TB. I wasn't really criticising your post as such but trying to make a more general point. There are many out there who argue that The BBC, in Scotland itself, are very biased.

Anyway, quite right, we should say no more about this.

I had forgotten about Celtic Music Radio and some of the smaller local stations also have some excellent programmes. However, the larger commercial radio stations are very poor , in this respect, these days.

I'm genuinely mystified. You appear to have only disdain for the Scots so why does the music appeal to you so?

Re BBC bias: some of us have not forgotten the miner's strike, distilled into a relentless drip feed of two poisonous narratives only: "picket line violence" (wholly unrepresentative of picketing as a whole) and trumpeted orchestrations of "the return to work", which began as a trickle and steadily mounted under the Beeb'S TLC. Every night, at great length. Hardly any other coverage. 1926 all over again, when the Beeb were openly lickspittles of the state ("The BBC is for the people; the government is for the people; therefore the BBC is for the government").

The nadir was Orgreave, when BBC prime time news reversed the footage of the unprovoked police attack and the angry response to it and voice-overed a commentary of outright fabrications about the tooled-up brave bobbies in their steel toecaps, riot helmets and shields coming under a vicious siege initiated by lads in ragged tee-shirts and sandals.

It took the BBC six years to apologise for what it claimed as a blunder, and no explanation of how this supposed blunder happened has ever been given. But I do wonder why Brigadier Ronnie Stonham, MI5's liaison officer, shared the same corridor as the head of news and current affairs (a fact that came out the following year during the Real Lives controversy). Something tells me Stonham wasn't twiddling his thumbs for a whole year.

We laugh at the controlled news coverage of totalitarian countries and delude ourselves into thinking it could never happen here. The main difference is just that the BBC is more sophisticated at misrepresenting events.

Amber Rudd squashed the calls for an inquiry into Orgreave; no surprise either. They don't want an even bigger embarrassment than Hillsborough. "Nothing to see there, move along now."

As some commentators have noted, the Beeb is only good for music - on those occasions when it isn't killing it off.

I'd find this thread far more useful if it was confined to folky type music on Scottish radio stations.
