This is a far better group than the last all-femalel ensemble you were pushing.

I don't think you can compare them - slightly different music!

A lot more interesting music in this case though. It is original, yet rooted in tradition.

There is a full concert by these fine ladies on the Arte TV site!

Any relation to the "Sons of the desert" Laurel & Hardy fan groups?

Me again, Bonzo. I like the ullulation at 3:50. It's good to have variety.

Have a listen, Nigel.

(Windows doesn't like 'ullulation'. Isn't that how it's spelled?)

Ululation.

It's interesting to see a video showing the Berber norm where men are veiled but women aren't. (Germaine Tillion's book "The Republic of Cousins" tries to explain why - veiling practices have nothing to do with religious beliefs, it's all about the customary law of marriage and inheritance, and predates any written scriptures).

Sounds like the title of a Goon Show

Just listened to some more from these ladies - infinitely more interesting than many boring British "trad singers"!!

Do they explain anywhere what their songs are about?

They sound like minimally adapted versions of traditional material. It would be nice if more British and Irish folk performers could learn to use electric instruments as effectively and not turn into Americans whenever they plug in.

I like boring British trad singers, if they're good.

I, too, wish I knew what they were singing about, but yes, Bonzo, it'd very hypnotic.

Their music is to some extent available on Amazon UK, there appears to be one CD copy of their latest album in stock ("more on the way"), and some of the tracks from their last two albums are available as mp3 downloads for 99p each.

But I would think that they are worth seeing live. Anybody know of any plans for a UK tour?

Right, their European summer tour dates are on their facebook page. They are playing in Hungary, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, France, Portugal and Spain. But not in the UK. Their earlier EU tour was Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland and Slovenia. But again, not the UK. Is this because UK festival organisers can't be bothered? Or because we really have placed ourselves beyond the Pale.

Arte TV may webcast another of their gigs. There are many concerts on Arte Concert website which can easily be downloaded!
