23 Jul 18 - 08:22 AM (#3938923) Subject: RE: Tech: Photoshop for free?? From: punkfolkrocker Blimey.. I've not enjoyed the fun of playing with cracks for years... Are you certain you can trust the source of this one, and only experimenting with it on a computer that is not connected to the internet or your home network; and is ultimately expendable...??? Remember - Safe computering.. always take precautions and use protection...!!! I understand the thrill... But there are now more than enough good freewares... I even actually buy music Daws and plugins in the regular ridiculously cheap lightning sales... |
23 Jul 18 - 09:30 AM (#3938943) Subject: RE: Tech: Photoshop for free?? From: Bonzo3legs Oh yes I have a spare PC for that sort of thing, on which I do regular clean reinstalls just for fun! |

23 Jul 18 - 11:47 AM (#3938998) Subject: RE: Tech: Photoshop for free?? From: punkfolkrocker Joe - 20 years ago 'some' tutors on UK FE college photographic courses were openly distributing bootleg CD roms of photoshop to students... It was tacitly accepted that Adobe were aware and turning a blind eye, because it hooked new young photographers into their realm of products... |
23 Jul 18 - 12:29 PM (#3939007) Subject: RE: Tech: Photoshop for free?? From: Bonzo3legs And now they are hooking new young photographers for £10 per month for ever - I call that theft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
23 Jul 18 - 02:26 PM (#3939022) Subject: RE: Tech: Photoshop for free?? From: Tootler Why pay or try to bypass Adobe's payment system when you can get a perfectly good photo processing app for free. The Gimp is free and open source so you don't have to pay, though you can donate to help with its upkeep. Whether it matches up to photoshop seems to divide viewers but unless you're a pro, I suspect you could be perfectly happy, I know I am. It's available for Linux, Windows and Mac Take a look The Gimp |
23 Jul 18 - 02:38 PM (#3939023) Subject: RE: Tech: Photoshop for free?? From: GUEST,Donuel I agree with bonzo. Adobe P today is a exploitative rent only proposition. Do I have to keep the spare computer offline? Compiling GIMP sounds daunting to me. |
23 Jul 18 - 02:47 PM (#3939025) Subject: RE: Tech: Photoshop for free?? From: Stanron You don't have to compile it unless you change the code. In Linux you download the compiled program through the software manager. Follow the download links for Mac and Windows. |

23 Jul 18 - 03:32 PM (#3939033) Subject: RE: Tech: Photoshop for free?? From: punkfolkrocker For the info of any who try this, is your dll tied to a specific build of photoshop...??? I've no need or inclination, but am still slightly intrigued by the novelty of this sort of thing... I remember the joys and frustrations of several years ago when I had more spare time for experimenting with software.. |

25 Jul 18 - 04:04 AM (#3939301) Subject: RE: Tech: Photoshop for free?? From: GUEST,Tootler on i-thingy GIMP is available for Windoze and Mac as well as Linux which is why I recommended it. You just need to download and install of you are on those. On Linux there will be a compiled version in the repo of your favourite flavour of Linux. My point is, why mess about trying to bypass Adobe's locks to prevent people using it for free when you can have perfectly legit software ( which, for most people is probably as good) for free anyway? |
25 Jul 18 - 04:33 AM (#3939305) Subject: RE: Tech: Photoshop for free?? From: Will Fly I have GIMP and have played with it on and off. I don't find it particularly easy to use in some respects. As for Adobe products, I resisted the monthly fee "rental" system for years, having found a free, completely legal, downloadable copy of CS2 on the internet. However, I've had to upgrade my laptop as, being 10 years old, modern versions of some software won't work with the software on my new cameras. As I'm getting more and more paid work for photography, now I don't begrudge keeping up to date with Adobe and use Lightroom and Photoshop almost every day. For a quick'n dirty layer draw program, I use Pixelmator - very cheap when I first got it. |
25 Jul 18 - 05:52 AM (#3939314) Subject: RE: Tech: Photoshop for free?? From: DaveRo Related thread from 6 weeks ago: Photo Editing Software pixlr.com editor, mentioned earlier, requires flash - with all that implies. They seem to have started on the abandoned an HTML5 version. Adobe actively seeks web posts that encourage cracking of their products. I wouldn't want Mudcat to receive a DMCA takedown notice, or for Google to block mudcat results. Gargoyle: can you work out why the last part of your post, which you intended to be green, is light blue? |
25 Jul 18 - 01:53 PM (#3939432) Subject: RE: Tech: Photoshop for free?? From: Bonzo3legs Then youtube should receive such a notice. All I did was download a trial version from Adobe, and change one of the files in the programme folder for an updated one - linked from youtube. |

26 Jul 18 - 02:15 AM (#3939527) Subject: RE: Tech: Photoshop for free?? From: GUEST,Jon Rather OT but I don't want to start another thread. Does anyone know of a good pixel editor for Linux? I was playing with Scratch the other day and found life harder than I wanted, eg. to draw some block sprites for a simple breakout game. All I want is to have fixed pixel sizes, eg.32x32, simple shapes like a rectangle, a free hand pencil/brush and a grid I can snap to. Years ago, I had a really good one designed for tasks like making icons for buttons, etc. that was probably bundled with either Borland Delphi or C++ Builder but I've not found similar. I wound up using krita this time which is over complicated for that. |
26 Jul 18 - 02:28 AM (#3939530) Subject: RE: Tech: Photoshop for free?? From: Stanron I use Pinta, (anagram of Paint). If you expand to 1200%, add the grid and set the brush width to '1' you can work at the single pixel level. Pinta.com I downloaded the program through the Software Manager in Linux Mint. |

From: GUEST,Jon Hmm, my memory seems to be failing me very quickly and I'm not sure I described my biggest problem accurately, although I will have a look at pinta. What I most struggled with was getting a series of "blocks" (a portion of the graphic being "erased" when a ball hits in the game) on one image, eg. this |
