First London visit (from the states). Totally a walking and public transportation event. Where might you suggest, near the Principal, might we find nighttime music scene. Genre is open as I’m a folkie and she totally is not. Any other “must see” events happening that week? Sure do appreciate any suggestions.

09 Sep 18 - 06:35 AM (#3949168) Subject: RE: Music scenes in London From: GUEST,SPB on holiday just watched a Nova Scotia s C#H is a bit of a trek walking from the British Museum, from Russell Square, catch a tube, and change to the Northern \(black) line to Camden Town, or if it is a nice day, take the canal walk from behind Kings Cross atation to Regents park. Send me a PM with a contact email, and I will send mini-maps of the neighbourhoods where folking takes place. The folk club is (90% cetain sa I have only been there twice) on Tuesdays. Also google (please note there are other search engines - to show I am not advertising) Folk London. The British Library (as well as the museum) is worth a visit. Although you will not be able to access the reading rooms, there are always interesting exhibitions on (including a free one in the foyer, and a small museum to the side. Also, let me know if you would like to know about some 'off the beaten track'places to visit. Unfortunately, apart from the usual tourist locations, the city of London is being turned into a high-rise glass monstrosity. For stopping for 'refreshments' there are still interesting pubs along Fleet Street, Aldwich, and The Strand. There is an interesting gallaried pub next to the Royal Courts of Justice in Fleet Street which I think is called The Banker which used to be the only Branch of the Bank of England. |

There is a Knees Up Cecil Sharp Fri Monthly and Primrose Hill Community Centre host on Bouch 2nd Fri - French/European dancing and if you can play - join the band. The night I went the band was 4 hurdy gurdies (and Chris Shaw left his in its case!). & I couldn't see: George Inn?, 77 Borough High Street, London, SE1 1NH 1st Monday listed (mainly French) session and maybe some dancing. |

Also The Session website has a reasonably up-to-date list of Irish music sessions in London. Central London to Priory Road is by no means a tricky journey, Freddie Headey. It involves a tube to either Finsbury Park or Turnpike Lane and then a bus journey. A trip from Russell Square would take around forty minutes. Buses to Moravian Church I lived in London for a while and regularly had to undertake journeys involving two forms of transport. It's the norm for many Londoners. |

" From Russell Square it would be easier to walk to all three. (Cellar is about 15 minutes walk straight down Guildford Street) Use the TfL website for directions at https://tfl.gov.uk. You can set the maximum time that you are prepared to walk and it will give you the fastest route on foot or by public transport with maps. Don't forget that you cannot use cash on the buses and you pay a premium for buying paper tickets on the Tube. Use a contactless debit / credit card or get an Oyster card on arrival. (see TfL website for details). |
