The Band of Love at Hyde Park

The Band of Love (Jim Causley, Greg Russell, Ciaran Algar, Alice Jones, Phillip Henry & Hannah Martin) were superb at the BBC Radio 2 bash in Hyde Park this afternoon. I discovered that it was on BBC Red Button 30 minutes before they were due to go on - panic stations trying to find the Red Button webstream so I could capture the video. My wife recorded it on freesat, but you cannot download HD from the Humax.

Such a pity that they were only on for 30 minutes.

I did too. I thought some of it worked some of it didn't and once again folk musicians appeared to be badly served by the sound engineering in Hyde Park

I watched a few minutes of All Saints, thought they were dire. The Shires and her legs were superb - never seen a lead guitarist in a country band playing a Gibson 335 before, I always thought Fenders were obligatory!!

Band of Love - Hyde Park - whole set!

Now p06kbqdp is the "pid" which can be downloaded using get_iplayer, with this command -

get_iplayer --raw --force --type=tv --pid=p06kbqdp --modes=best

and you get HD video & audio at 320kbps - as good as it gets!!

Thanks for the heads up Bonzo. I am listening as I type and thoroughly enjoying it. Just watch that you don't get embroiled in the 'is this folk music' battle! :-)

Put listening on hold. Saving it for my gym soundtrack tonight. What could be better, folk slant and disco beat :-D

I seem to recall one of Dolly's guitarists playing a 335 at Glastonbury.
Telecasters aren't the only option - ask Buddy Miller!

Bonz - it's a long time since I looked into it....

But Humax user groups were discussing a method for reflashing a popular box
with the operationg system of another that allowed transferring HD video...

There was also a software for reading the hard drive, I got half way and copied the contents onto a PC,
but wasn't techie enough to work out how to recode them to universally playable format.

One of my Humaxs could eaily transfer SD video over the home network to my PC,
but it's not something I've bothered with for some years
since we got into Sky/Prime/Netflix catch up on demand...

Never heard of 'em... now I find out it's FolkDisco...

Bah... bastards... that was my idea years ago....

But I'm such a lazy sod, and they had the same idea and actually did it...

Thing is.. will I like it when I hear it...?????

Thanks Punkfolkrocker, I found that using get_iplayer to download provided HD quality video with 320kbps audio, which I think is just about as good as it gets from on line BBC!

I'm really confused by this, it was fun, some good harmonies, some iffy lead singing ( I had gone to the iplayer for Lenny Kravitz who's singing was amazing ), I just ask - why?
I'm not a hard faced folkie, I have played Shout by Tears for Fears in folk clubs, Heroes in sessions, do a lot of Steely Dan and Floyd with a melodeon player, but disco grooves, I'm not sure. Maybe it was just choice of material, I had heard " Give me the night" before and it put a smile on my hairy chops.
I played in Steely Dan/ Stevie Wonder covers & originals band way back ( Gibson 330 ), I think some ?? may have arisen if I had suggested Canadeeio, ( RT Wall of Death may have got a chance ). It reminds me of AC Dixie, sort of a novelty thing.
Persuade me - gently please.

Well.. the target market demographic is my mrs,
in a bit of a daft Friday night dancing mood after a tough week at work.....

CD just puchased off amazon,
so she can sing along to the included instant streaming mp3s while dinner is cooking...

She started off dancing, but is now sat singing to it doing a crossword puzzle..

Sounds ok enough to me so far.. but it's sooo middle class BBC 4 folkie awards fodder..

like hip wine bar music...

or wot trendy toffs might listen to in a posh Glamping field...

thanks.. not had time to watch, but random samples for a few seconds along the time line look great on a 21" monitor...

So, has the beeb not screened this on TV, or have no intentions of ever doing so...???

I might transfer it to the wife's tablet...

Are you keeping it online for any lurkers too shy to ask or admit to downloading...???

just tested for a few seconds on headphones - there's a good hefty bass wallop to the mix...

..none of that airy fairy tinkly tweeness usually associated with 'folk'...

I'll have to take the HD video down tomorrow as I need to put up video/photos of the wedding we attended in Slovakia for our friends out there - remember, there are no strangers just friends you don't recognise!!!
