Well, the site you're looking for certainly isn't http://www.stevegoodman.com/, that's fer sure. Try http://www.hepcat.com/ (click) - lots of good stuff from "our" Steve there.

I have several Goodman CD's, and the closest I could find was this:

SOMEBODY ELSE'S TROUBLES
(Steve Goodman)

Yesterday I went downtown and saw an old-time picture show
And the hero got a pie in the face;
He didn't like that, and he stormed around the screen.
Everybody else was laughin' in that place.

(Chorus)
That's 'cause it ain't hard
To get along with somebody else's troubles,
And they don't make you lose any sleep at night.
Just as long as fate is there bustin' somebody else's bubbles,
Everything's gonna be all right.
Everything's gonna be all right.

Tell me, Did you ever have to pay for something that you didn't do,
Did you ever figure out the reason why?
When the doctor says this is gonna hurt me a lot more than this hurts you
Did you ever figure out that, that's a lie?
(chorus)

And I saw the boss come a-walking down along that factory line,
He said, "We all have to tighten up our belts."
But he didn't look any thinner than he did a year ago,
And I wonder just how hungry that man felt.
(chorus)

Now, I asked that undertaker what it took to make him laugh
When all he ever saw is people crying,
First he hands me a bunch of flowers that he'd received on my behalf,
And said, "Steve, business just gets better all the time."
(chorus)
^^
I realize this may not be the song you want, but it's a darn good song. Another possibility might be TROUBLE WILL FIND YOU (click).
Hey, maybe that's the one you want!!!

Don't go looking for trouble,
Trouble will find you,
Trouble will find you,
Trouble will find you,
Don't go lookin' for trouble,
Trouble will find you,
You sure won't have to look too far.

That's the chorus to the song I think. I do have the rest of those lyrics here but I've got to get to bed now or Santa won't leave nothin'. After the gifts are all opened tomorrow I'll get to finding the song for you---if nobody posts it here first.

Have a fine holiday,

Denis,

Here are the chords to the best of my knowledge.

LOOKIN' FOR TROUBLE
(Steve Goodman)

Am.............................................................. E7...........Am
First time you take a drink you want to spit and sputter

Dm...............................Am
Shiver and shudder, mumble and mutter.

But the next one tastes so sweet
........................E7.........Am
It makes you want another.

F..............................E7.......Am
Now you drinkin' all the time.

CHO:
....................................................E7...............Am
Don't go lookin' for trouble, trouble will find you.

Dm.................................Am

Trouble will find you, trouble will find you.

..................................................E7................Am
Don't go lookin' for trouble, trouble will find you.

F...............................E7...........Am

Sure don't have to look too hard.

First time you shade the truth you want to run and hide.
Your tongue gets tied, your throat gets dry.

Start thinkin' maybe no one knows you lied.

Now you're shady all the time. CHO:

Bridge:

Dm

Trouble will pin a tail on you.

Am........E7.......Am
Follow you around.

Dm

Catch you when your number's up.

B7...............................E7

And your guard is down.

First time you fall in love, the skies are sunny.

She calls you honey, your jokes are funny.

She reminds you she was only in it for the money.

Now you're drinkin' all the time.

Don't go lookin' for trouble, trouble will find you.

Trouble will find you, deaf, dumb and blind you.

Don't go lookin' for trouble, trouble will find you.

Sure don't have to look too far...
...trouble in your own backyard.

Thanks for reminding me of these two great songs. I first heard of Steve Goodman from my med school roommate in 1974, and saw him in concert a few times in Philadelphia. I don't think I've ever seen anyone with as much stage presence, who so clearly enjoyed being on stage and sharing his music, as Steve. As this year winds down I keep hearing him singing, "The 20th century is almost over..." and wish he were here to see it out with us. Perhaps he is.

Aloha,
Mark

Roger, Many thanks for your help with the song which is called "Lookin for trouble" not trouble will find you as I indicated previously... got a bit confused with all the feedback from other Mudcats ( but much appreciated). For the record I heard the song on our local station run by the Australian Broadcasting Commission ( government)called Radio National. Program is called "The Nightly Planet" presenteded by a guy called "Lucky Oceans" an accomplished musician who is either American or Canadian but I think the latter...details of the song are as follows

    by Steve Goodman

The first time you take a drink it makes you spit and sputter

But the next one tastes so sweet it makes you want another
Now you're drinkin all the time

Don't go lookin for trouble. Trouble will find you,
Trouble will find you, trouble will find you.
Don't go lookin for trouble. Let me remind you
'Cause you sure don't have to look too hard

The first time you shade the truth you want to run and hide

It'll get you when you're number's up
And when your guard is down

The first time you fall in love the skies are sunny
They call you honey. Your jokes are funny
Then they get bored, then they get restless, then they're up and gone
They leave you cryin' all the time

Don't go lookin for trouble. Trouble will find you,
Trouble will find you. Deaf, dumb and blind you.
Don't go lookin for trouble. Let me remind you
'Cause you sure don't have to look too hard
