I am too young, myself, to have been around during what US/Americans can be heard to call The Golden Age Of Radio. Which, as I understand it, is before television. Maybe there was cinema already though? So what I recall about radio listening, over the years, is all after said Golden Age, because I was raised with television from the beginning. But it was before computers and the internet. Here in eastern Massachusetts there is a fellow named Bob Bittner with a deep resonant voice that people have been listening to for decades. He keeps thinking of retiring but who will replace him? The station from which he broadcasts, 740 AM, many years ago had the call numbers WCAS and became nicknamed "Wickus Island." "Wickus," it has been explained to me, is how people pronounce "WCAS." And I also hear that that older station broadcast folk music. Anyone else want to chime in? |
