Kendall, it's in one of the Mudcat Tavern threads, can't remember which one. Harpy had a bout with Alison of OZ against a couple of the guys in it, if I remember correctly. Harpy, you there? Fill us in will ya?**BG**

How can I miss you till you go away (one of Kat's "BGs" here)? Looking forward to seeing you when you stop by on the way, Kendall. The dog's welcome, too.

I heard about all that playing around in a big pit filled with Jello. Some sort of Woodstock-inspired thing, I figured, so I knew I was too old for such games. They do that kind of thing down there in North Florida?

..oh yes, Sandy...with sparkling mandarin orange jello! It's a difficult flavor to find but well worth the hunt! Although Alison prefers lime, I believe...Ah well, color coordination! Of course those who feign ignorance do not get invited to any matches! And so it goes...but it will be nice to trade songs with Kendall and hang around my favorite rivers...warm him up for me Sandy!

Aw, Kendall, I may be from the West, but the ten years I spent in New England stole mah'heart and when I hear your voice, singing or speaking, I am so reminded of the good people I met and learned to love back there, that it kinda makes me *home*sick, even though I pined for the Rockies while back there. The heart is a fickle thing, isn't it?

Now about that jello...I think it was lime-flavoured!

I think Harpgirl and Moonchild go moonlight paddling on the Suwannee, Kendall. Better not tell 'em that story about your aunt who heard people bragging about their ancestors who came over on the Mayflower. You know, the one where the guy says, "I don't know if any of my folks came over on the Mayflower, but I had an aunt, once, that came across in a canoe." Oooops! Sorry, folks.

Kendall,

I won't miss you till after you've stopped by here and then left. I'm glad I can put you up your 2nd night out. I hope you won't be dissapointed with our company here, after staying with Sandy and Caroline the night before.

So, Phila area mudcatters, since there's no live radio show that night, Max being on vacation, shall we have a little get-together for Kendall? I think I could get my housemates to let us use the living room here in Blue Bell, unless somebody else wants to host it. What do you say, Bert, Pete, Hagbard? MTed? Who else is around here? Perhaps a potluck with an open circle? Get back to me-email me at Marymac90@aol.com

I dont think there is a library in Live Oak..I once went looking for something to read, and, all I could find was GUNS & AMMO, FIELD & STREAM and MILITIA MONTHLY !! with luck, Harpgirl or moonchild will drag me off to their lair and let me take liberties with their modem !! LOL

Sandy, you and I are old enough to know what "come across" means.. I wonder if the young folks know?

All of you will be sorely missed. As Mac Wiseman sang "..it's sweet to be remembered, when you are far away.."

Yup I guess I'll miss you as well. However I'll try to catch you on Wednesday with Marymac90.

On Thursday the 6th. I'll be at The Point in Bryn Mawr for the release of the PASA (Philadelphia Area Songwriters Alliance) CD "Declarations" I'll be singing "Plastic Flower Seeds" one of the fifteen numbers on the CD.

and Lime Jello doesn't come 'sparkling' like that new fangled mandaring orange, so we'll just throw some sequins in it.

Bert C. is another Mudcatter in this area but he doesn't post much. So, Bert C, if you're lurking out there come and join us on Wednesday the 4th.

Well the north's loss is our gain. Live Oak and the Spirit of the Suwanee Music Park is about 90 miles west of us here in Jacksonville. If it makes the rest of you feel any better though, we have had night time temperatures in the mid to high 20's here all week, with more of the same for the next 5 days. Of course, when Kendall arrives, it will warm up to the mid 70's during the day and mid-50's pickin' weather in the evenings.

Spirit of the Suwanee Music Park also has a web site (I don't have the URL handy) for those of you who want to take a peek at Kendall's digs...

I think BB/Neo has officially emerged from her shell...........and RiB, I think Mr. Paton has long ago acquired the strength to fend off the influence of the likes of me. Now BB on the other hand............

Kendall, I'd like to say that all these folks are adept storytellers in the best traditions of the music and the sad reality is that none of them could give a tinker's damn about whether you are here or not. They have no morals and the spirit of goodwill and caring which you would expect is sadly lacking. It gives me pride to say that I couldn't give less of a turkey whether or not you go to the swamps or the moon, and if you decide to go to either, take Garg with you and throw his ass into either the middle of a gator's mouth or a convenient crater, depending on where you are. If you DO get a chance to go on-line from wherever, you might check in here just to let us know you're okay. Nobody really cares, but the bandwidth may as well be used. If we don't here from you regularly, the Insanevac chopper will be sent out to retrieve your sorry ass and take you to the Neil Young Center for the Terminally Screwed where you belong anyway. In the meantime, I will continue singing bad harmony to "Phoebe Snow."

Be safe, be careful, be back........

I'll be sure to bring my laptop. But I am NOT jello wrestling in any flavor. I detest anything slimy! But, c'mon folks, Florida Crackers don't wrestle in jello ... they wrestle in grits ... buttered, cheese ... you name it. It's easier to get a good hold on your opponent and they don't slip through your hands. It's reallllll ugly when it dries, though. Gives you that kind of lumpy, grizzled look. And it's like glue when it dries.

annap's gathering and kendall's gathering within a few weeks of each other ... it's too, too! For me, 2000 is filling up nicely and it all has to do with music.

Truth be known, Kendall has picked the ideal time of year for camping in the north Florida woods. Given a good freeze before he arrives, there'll be very few skeeters, chiggers, no-see-ums, yellow flies, deer flies or ticks. Do keep an eye out for fire ants, however. Though even they tend to be a bit lethargic this time of year. Same is true for snakes. Cleigh's kin, 'coons and skunks tend to be very accustomed to people in camps and will commonly walk right up to you after dark looking for a handout. Just don't make any sudden moves, especially if there're skunks about. If you should happen to have a less than fulfilling encounter with a skunk, the only two remedies I know of that usually work well at getting rid of the stink are tomato juice and ordinary 3% hydrogen peroxide. The fire ants can be far more serious, even fatal, if you happen to be one of those who are acutely allergic to them. The best way to deal with them around your campsite is to pour hot tap water on the mound. Mix in a few drops of dish soap for good measure. Do not use boiling water as that will kill plant roots and the like. Hot tap water (110-120 degrees F) will do in the ants without killing plant roots. And, please, don't be spraying pesticides around the place. It tends to wind up in the water. Don't worry about gators. They're still licking their wounds in the Swamp. (they lost the big intra-state grudge match a month ago):)

Rereading the above, I guess it could be a bit of a downer, but it's not meant that way at all. The park folks normally do a very good job of minimizing such things. So come planning to relax and enjoy our part of the world.

I'll catch up w/ harpy and moonchild and we'll come invade your campsite sometime.

kendall -

Several years ago I visited my parents at their camp in Denmark Maine (Sebago Lake area for you out-of-staters) one July 4rth weekend with my youngest son, Trevor. We had just arrived from Texas and stopped in at the corner store for bread, milk and an out-of-state fishing license. The game warden had a small table set-up just outside of Jim-Bobs Variety Store where he was selling Kiwanis Club raffle tickets. Trevor and I stopped by the table, bought a ticket or two, and chatted with the well kept old timer for a few minutes. When I remarked on the beauty of the day, a summer day so lovely - hot, dry pine scented breeze, clear blue sky - a summer day as only I've seen in Maine, one which we never see in Texas. I said, "Isn't it a beautiful day?" The game warden answered me in his dry dead pan, Maine accented way. He said, "Ahyup! We got two seasons up hee-uh; wintah and the fooorth of July!"

that story somehow feels appropriate to this thread!

I always thought I could identify the area of America someone came from within 100 sq miles by the way they said one word: "PIE". Deep-southerners say "PAH". Folks from Kentucky get the "ee" sound right at the end: "PAH-ee." East coasters give it the full "POY". Great Lakes people are more nasal "PAA-ee".

So much for LEJ's linguistic theories. I'll stash that one away with my Psychology of Women Theory, which says you can determine everything you needed to know about a prospective partner by finding out which Beatle was her favorite.

Perish the thought!

I was telling me dad that we hadn't had any snow to speak of this year and was worried about a drought in the spring. He reminded me then, of the blizzard of 1948/49(?)can't remember which it was. Anyway, he said it was warm and dry all winter until just after the first of January, then the snow came. It blew and drifted and fell through, with no let up, to March something. No one went anywhere, my brother remembers tunnels to the doors of houses and, when they could get to them, huge long trainloads of thousands of dead cattle, frozen stiff, caught out where no cowboy could get to them.

Apparently someone is thinking along the same lines as my dad. When I went looking for info I found a recent article on what happened in South Dakota then, at Deadwood Magazine. It was weird, just as now, blizzard one day, 55 degrees the next, then unrelenting blizzard. In a timeline for wyoming, 1949 has one entry: Severe blizzard closed down whole state.

So...maybe your trip is double timely, Kendall! Leave it to a Yankee to be canny about such things.**BG**
