09 Jan 19 - 09:38 PM (#3970871) Subject: Help identifying a singer/guitarist From: GUEST,Frustrated Searcher I'm trying to identify a male singer/guitarist. The easiest way to describe what I recall is that he was a very heavyset gentleman who seemingly always wore a striped shirt, possibly a naval/maritime shirt. He had a beard. Sorry I can't provide more information; I don't remember what types of songs I was searching for when I came across his performances. FWIW, definitely in the folk/trad camp, not a pop star. Thanks! |

10 Jan 19 - 04:16 AM (#3970901) Subject: RE: Help identifying a singer/guitarist From: Helen Surely, Guest Frustrated Searcher could supply more useful information than this. Type of music Some song lyrics The possible/likely year(s) of recording The possible/likely country that the singer originated from. etc etc Sometimes I wonder whether this is just a new way of trolling people who have a desire to help others. Send us on a wild goose chase and drip-feed information if the searchers appear to be losing interest. Be fair dinkum about this please, Guest, and give us some real information. What artists do you tend to listen to? What types of songs do you tend to search for? Was there a reason that you were searching for these songs? Something that will trigger your memory. |

10 Jan 19 - 04:36 AM (#3970907) Subject: RE: Help identifying a singer/guitarist From: GUEST,kenny It might also help if you could at least tell us which decade he was performing in. Where did you see him perform ? Where did you "come across his performances" ? |

He left the band in the huff, as I recall. ;-)) Without more information, trying to identify this "folk singer" is like looking fro "Needles and Pins" in a haystack........ |

Was there a reason that you were searching for these songs\artist? (Casual question or you're losing sleep over it? You had his child? He\she is your father\mother? ...) decade\dates & age at that time gender build or description singer \ instrumentalist instrument(s) solo\group which country what accent what genre , contemporary or trad' example of similar artists to DO know example of lyrics where did you hear them : - live(club\gig\...\stadium) \ radio \mp3 \ CD \ cassette \ LP \ 45 \ 78 What artists do you tend to listen to? 10 Jan 19 - 06:30 PM (#3970971) Subject: RE: Help identifying a singer/guitarist From: Helen Thanks for your list of questions, FreddyHeadey, although I'm feeling a bit cautious about including the bit about parentage or parenting. LOL Well done, meself, for identifying the singer with what I can only describe as just about the most minimalist info posted to Mudcat. You deserve a medal! A big, bearded bloke who wears stripey shirts could describe most of the male contingent of folkie singers that I have ever seen. And I have only seen a small proportion of the Oz contingent. That's not even starting on the Brits, the U.S., and all the other countries of the world which boast about having folkies in their midst. |

10 Jan 19 - 06:51 PM (#3970977) Subject: RE: Help identifying a singer/guitarist From: meself A medal? Oh, no! I mean, well, I suppose, if someone WERE to submit my case to the appropriate authorities, and they were to judge me deserving, I suppose it would be ungracious to refuse it, but really ... ! |

Yes, it looks like the inaugural MMS - ABCD is going to meself for excellent service to the Mudcat community and to fly in/fly out Guests who post tantalisingly little information, expect miracles, and more often than not, get miracles. And, in this case, it only took meself 4 hours to achieve the miracle. Speech, speech!! |
