BS: For my dog

I am putting up a brand new dog fence out back. And Mexico is going to pay for it. Best doggie fence you ever saw it’s huge

In the spirit of Dan's Wisdom, I see Donnie as a clear and present danger when he says any attempt to remove him will result in the people rising up and fighting the 'deep state democrats'.

I JUST DON'T SEE THAT. For people to be willing to fight and die for Trump, any Trump, sounds like people are willing to fight and die for Jimmy Fallon or Steve Doocy or Tucker Carlson. America is NOT willing to die for its entertainers*.

So if the choice is for a fence or a functioning government, I choose an impenetrable fence around the White House.

*I would deeply miss Stephen Colbert and Bill Mahre.

So right before Xmas my wiener dog jumps off my bed. Bam paralyzed once again. I call my daughter who is a veterinarian neurologist surgeon in California. Dad he needs back surgery right now once again. I drive him four hours to the university here and has surgery. 5000 bucks. Well he is fine now and running again. I told my kid, I spent a fortune so you could learn this stuff and I still have to pay another doctor. Oh were is the justice lol

My combination of cedar stockade privacy fence and 4' wire chain link fence keep the dogs in and the coyotes and foxes out. My neighbor paid for the latest rendition of the stockade fence (but he had a Ted Cruz sign in his yard last November, so I suspect he wants the idiot's barrier at the border.)

He is the only dog I know that puts his toys away. He plays throws them around then carries it back to his box and gets another. I didn’t teach him. I think he just is possessive about the other wiener dogs getting them. They still do and he puts them back lol

My Lab has a "toy box," that is in fact a large brass planter or such - he heads over and pulls out his bumpers (for fetch) or ball (for fetch) or chew toys or knotted rope (for fetch or tug-o-war). And this week he turned from the bin with one of his bumpers and the new blue heeler took it from him and turning, handed it to me. They are working suspiciously in-tandem to get what they want - to play fetch.

There's a lovely group of dachshund owners called The Sausage Dog Walkers' Club. They walk their dogs along the quayside of the river Tyne in Newcastle. In between programmes on the BBC they show a brief clip of them. Long-haired and short-haired ones (the dogs) (well, and their owners)

Subject: RE: BS: For my dog
From: leeneia

Come to think of it, if a dachshund were an outdoor dog living on a farm, it would probably never encounter anything in the nature of a bed. A bale of hay might be a similar height, but why would it climb a bale of hay?

There are steps for dogs, but would be remember to use them?

Dan, maybe you'll have to sleep on an air mattress from now on.

Subject: RE: wiener dogs, pioneers of curing spinal cords
From: Donuel

For the last 3 years Dachshunds with an inherited spinal disease (25% likely), broken necks and cord injuries have received STEM CELL treatment injected into their spinal fluid. The results show up inside of 3 weeks to a year. For example total paralysis within 3 weeks of injections has healed 3 of four legs to function again.
yes
I am making the innuendo that what works for our dogs can work for us.
A key is to not wait for stem cell treatment.

If the grey is a former racing dog,
why on earth would she NOT zoom on occasion?

11 Feb 19 - 10:14 AM (#3976130)
Subject: RE: BS: For my dog
From: Senoufou

I think all dogs should have a daily opportunity to 'zoom'. They're naturally predisposed to run, chase and hunt.
The problem arises when they won't come back for ages, despite their frantic owners calling and whistling.

Our neighbours' two dogs (Logie and Molly) go out in the fields and have a huge 'zoom'. Sometimes they're naughty and don't respond to a recall until they've nearly run their legs off. Once or twice they've darted in and out of the river, and come home a bit smelly and covered in thick mud.
But I reckon they adore it.

I have steps but sometimes my obie thinks he can fly. Now he has a pillow and a pen. He is squirrel chasing again. Surgery was perfect thank goodness

11 Feb 19 - 07:01 PM (#3976225)
Subject: RE: BS: For my dog
From: keberoxu

There is an obvious reason why even a dachshund living on a farm would climb anything whatever.
Dachshunds are earthdogs [which is what terrier means]
and they are bred to hunt. Just because they are named for badgers
doesn't mean they would turn up their long noses
at smaller vermin!

Sure, dachshunds are better at digging than climbing,
but try reasoning with a dachshund
who just spotted something small that smelled like
it ought to be chased and hunted ...

I just put up a new fence for my dog too. Actually, it's not a fence to keep my dog in the yard or anything like that. It's a fence to keep my dog out of the compost pile. It should keep her from wallowing in rotten potatoes and out-of-date blue cheese dressing.

Now, if she wants to get all stinky, she'll have to go find some deer guts to wallow in.

On a serious note, I recommend getting pet insurance for your pets, preferably when you first get them, when there aren't yet any pre-existing condition. We had a little Jack Shit who developed reflux, food allergies, environmental allergies and epilepsy. The insurance saved us thousands over the years. The company we use is called Petplan Plus.

I thought you weren't supposed to put rotten potatoes in a compost heap because of blight.
And as for blue cheese dressing, I'm not sure - maybe you should just eat it all before it goes out of date.

I just saw that a long-time Mudcat member posted today
that a beloved dog died in her sleep overnight.
I'm not outing the member or the dog here.
But there must be more than a few of us
who are sorry for the member's loss.

I might add that this was one lucky dog, in my opinion --
a little infirmity near the end,
but got to die at home with her favorite human and her dog pack.

Bonzo, please report back on the reaction to the large space.

Both of my dogs slept on the bed last night during a long thunderstorm, though the one who really dislikes the storms eventually hopped down and hunkered in the hall where no windows let her see the flashes. The other old dog used to sleep on his former owner's bed, so on rare occasions is allowed up on the bed here. He puts out a lot of heat and is a bit of a bed hog.

01 Jul 19 - 05:28 PM (#3998751)
Subject: RE: BS: For my dog
From: keberoxu

Apropos of Fourth of July fireworks,

I read a first-person account of someone
who adopted a rescue dog from
the Cairn Terrier rescue people.

The terrier needed a lot of medical treatment before
he was put up for adoption, because he had skin problems
and was itchy all over and stuff; neglect on more than one count.
But he was an extrovert and he loves humans,
and no matter what people were doing to him,
he kept wagging his tale happily.

Foster volunteers house-trained the little rescue terrier,
and then he went to his forever home.

Where the Fourth of July happened.
And what did the little cairn terrier do?
He celebrated.

Every time the fireworks went off,
he hopped up in the air and barked his scratchy voiced little bark,
and looked delighted.
In fact,
he really wanted to head out to the patio through the sliding doors
so that he could
hunt and catch whatever was making that joyful noise.

The terrier thought the whole thing was great fun.
