Lyr Req: When he wears pink tights

From: GUEST,Bones

I've heard a song for which the chorus is:

When he wears pink tights,
He feels a different sort of guy.
When he wears pink tights,
He goes gaily tripping by.
When he wears pink tights,
He catches everybody's eye.
He makes Friday night in Scunthorpe time for screaming.

Can anyone identify the song, ideally who wrote it, sang it and what its actually called.

If anyone has the text for the verses, I would be very grateful.

Many thanks.

Clearly a parody of Robin Laing's Black Clothes, but I've never heard it.

Written, I think, by Grimsby’s very own Dave Evardson (who also wrote such superb songs as ‘The North Wall’, ‘Three Score and Ten’, Braid Away Dolly’, and many, many more).

Looked for the lyrics but no luck. Lots of Dave and Julie Evardson’s stuff here...

This was indeed Dave Evardson who has kindly allowed me to post the full lyrics. It's to the tune of Robin Laing's Black Clothes and was written with Robin's permission.

LYR00282
PINK TIGHTS
(Robin Laing / Dave Evardson)

He was an ordinary fella, with a family & a wife
But he felt something was missing in a corner of his life
It’s not what you might be thinking – he isn’t fond of ginger beer
The only closet he’s come out of is where his missus keeps her gear

Chorus
Cos when he wears pink tights, he feels a different sort of guy
When he wears pink tights, & he goes gaily tripping by
When he wears pink tights, he catches everybody’s eye
He’s made Friday nights in Scunthorpe time for screaming!

He used to be a steel man, until Corus let him go
And when he couldn’t find another job, he didn’t let it lay him low
Cos he found a different ‘chorus’ line in a different kind of show
This foundryman turned drag queen can really get the crowd aglow

Chorus

Now he’s not exactly kinky – though he’s not exactly straight
And when he lost his job he also lost his hang-ups - & some weight
And though he knows he’ll never walk again through those old foundry gates
In his high heels & his make up, he still insists on union rates

Chorus

Well his wife is standing by him, though it hit her hard somehow
But after thirty years together, how could she desert him now?
She just says “I love you Cyril, & I don’t really want to moan,
But if you must go wearing women’s clothes, I wish you’d buy your own!”
