Well, all the power went off here at midnight, and then the armed personnel carriers started cruising the streets. I hear gunfire outside, but I'm hiding in my house, intending to defend my small store of food and fuel with my life. Hang on, I think the mother ship just landed in my back yard...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Just got back from a friend's house, where my kid and his kid and neighbor kids and the host all chanced arrest by setting off fireworks. Sang a few songs, some lead by Ferarra, Bill D., or Lamarca. All healthy, none wealthy, but I have to work tomorrow (is that wise?).

Computer made it through with no problems that I can see. So seem to have all the computers we were worried about. I'm on the Y2K team at work (which is why I work tomorrow, noon to whenever). Looks like all our work paid off.

Just came back from a fun party. At Midnight my husband and a friend piped in the New Year. Then we took one set of pipes outside with three bodhrans and......

didn't set fire to them; we played them and paraded around the block waving to the host's neighbours. Three other houses had parties going and they all came out to wave and cheer. We couldn't get a babysitter but I hope our kids will remember this night. They loved it.

All's quiet here. Woke up bright and early after a small party and watching the city fireworks from my hillside window. Checked in with BBC World Service:

My ability to make the blue-clicky-thingy seems to be the only thing that hasn't made it into 00! Happy New Year, all! I'm glad we're all still here!

Happy New Year!! We had a relatively warm and comfortable First Night celebration (first year in a while when it hasn't been near or below zero) Michael played a nifty program of music from the millennium, we watched some good fireworks, jumped up and down with the population of Montpelier at midnight, came home and went to bed, and woke up to it all still here, working and happy. I KNEW New Hampshire would be different Jeri.

Hey, folks. Mbo here, wishing you all a Happy New Year from Jacksonville, North Carolina. Though I don't believe the 2nd millennium began last night (one more year to go! :}), I still played ELO's "21st Century Man." No problems here. No glitches or explosions!

and at the stronk of midnight what should happen at my college appartment, but a the pipe under a sinkloaded full of dirty dishes breaks apart and sends a disgusting flood through this tiny place spilling into a huge bag of rice, which, when we tried to save it, knocked into the christmas tree which fell on my roommate who knocked over the cake and broke two wine glasses...good thing we were prepared for disaster huh?

St. Petersburg's First Night was great. The smallest crowd in four years. Guess a lot of people were afraid to come out; however, they did appear from all corners for the fireworks! It was a great evening. Hope you were there, Banjer!! Penny.

3 sets at Rutland First Night, ending at 11:15; then tore down and packed the stuff (while sending the least ugly and most persuasive member - my bride of 33 winters - to pick up the check). Then drove up the mountain to a party and played/sang for another hour or more - I'm not sure why. Slept in as late as I've slept in some years, then fired up the infernal machine, which worked just fine, and swore at the people who perpetrated the fraud of a Y2K crisis in order to sell more junk, including software to cure Y2K bugs that didn't happen. (To quote Stan, thus giving this post a folk music content) God Damn Them All.

One set at a Senior residence in Rutland at 2:30 this afternoon, and back up to the same place on the mountain for the second installment of the jam, and home an hour or so ago. Now I will get some sleep.

Not that anyone else is likely to care about all this, but it appears to be expected....

At the stroke of midnight, I was surrounded by tiny squalling feathered beasts who were attacking a syringe full of slop that I held in my hand. Thank goodness the lights didn't go out! Anybody want a cute lil baby cockatiel? :-)

I had to work this morning (I work at a bank) because the "powers that be" decided there may be something to the Y2K hoopla. There wasn't. All the computers worked. All the info was still there. Not a single customer called worrying that their money was gone. So after wasting the morning, I spent the rest of the day celebrating with my Sweetie the beginning of a New Year and a new time for us.

Much happiness to all Mudcatters everywhere!

Greetings from New Haven. As far as I can tell, I had the only Y2K bug known to man. Fired up the computer and checked the date - January 4, 1989. Changed it to January 1. 2000 and everything seems OK. The poor media had to report that nothing happened - it looked so silly. Live from the ATM - it worked. Live from the airport - planes are on time. Live from the train station - No delays. Etc.

Went to a great house party New Years Eve - food, drink, kids, and lots of music accompanied by 5 guitars and a great saw player.

Blessed New Year to all.

DW
