BS: Silver Elephants (GOP & Trump stuff)

I never before heard of Silver Elephants.
Mick Mulvaney, acting chief of staff for
Donald Trump's White House administration
(he is for this year anyhow),
gave a speech to the Silver Elephants.

They have an annual Gala in his native South Carolina,
I took no notice of which city.

This was reported at the Federal Times website, and
my attempt to post a blue clicky link failed
when the computer booted me.
But it's a hotel computer on some sort of timer ...
anyway.

Not hard to surmise that the Republican Party is concerned here.
Mick Mulvaney's rise to the White House
was summarized in a recent New York Times article.
Only a few years ago, Mulvaney worked in South Carolina
at Salsarita's, a Mexican-food restaurant franchise,
as an owner-operator and minor shareholder.

Look where he has got to since.

Mulvaney was congratulating himself on the success of cutting back,
in DC, so as to "drain the swamp,"
by relocating certain agencies of
the US Department of Agriculture
from DC to Kansas City;
in response to the proposed relocation,
Mulvaney claimed,
half of the employees quit.

That's draining the swamp??

The Silver Elephant Gala if I read this right
is the big annual
South Carolina fundraiser
for the Republican Party, that answers that question.

Mulvaney was the keynote speaker.
Sen. Lindsay Graham was also there,
and the current Governor
whose name just went 'poof' to dust in my mind.

Well, here's your Personal Invitation (click) to the 52nd annual South Carolina GOP Silver Elephant Fundraising Gala, which was held on Friday, August 2, in Columbia, the capital city of South Carolina (the one that had the Confederate flag on the statehouse grounds until just recently).

CSPAN broadcast Mulvaney's speech from the gala. Isn't CSPAN paid for by taxpayer money? What's it doing at such a partisan event? I watched a part of it, and it made me cringe - like the outcome of the Civil War got reversed when Trump was elected.

I'd agree with you, Mrrzy but I damn near got trampled by one of those beasts in Rwanda (my fault I never should have left the vehicle but I couldn't get him in frame otherwise) and I have fond memories of riding a particular mule when I was a kid.

Sen. Graham,Trump sycophant and golfing buddy, recently encouraged President Schlump publicly to recognize climate change and take action and VP Pence harshly criticized Trump's puppet master, Putin, the other day. Let's hope these trends continue as Trump's support wanes.

Btw, apparently VP Pence is staying at a Trump golf resort at Trump's suggestion and is commuting 20 minutes via Air Force 2 to Dublin for meetings. Schlump once again lining his pockets with tax payer money, this and his proposal for bringing the next G7 (make that the G8 if he's able to bring Putin along) to Trump Doral, during the peak of the hurricane season down here, together with all his other misdeeds are making impeachment proceedings more and more likely.

An elephant should only sit on them.

The world would be better off with wild elephants on the increase and Republicans were becoming extinct. It was so bad until LBJ passed those integration laws and the so-called Dixiecrats bolted and the Southern states all became Republicans, poisoning a different group this time and the Republicans pretty much forfeited the Right to be called The Party Of Lincoln.I

Furthermore, do you notice in all their rhetoric, Ike and Teddy are no longer cited by the GOP as part of their heritage. That Donald Trump's mentor was Roy Cohn must have One spinning in his grave.

So Trump seems to be using the Southern state governments of the years of Hoover and early FDR as a template for what he's trying to do.The little demo fascist fiefdoms if left alone and worked around in the old days, but nobody ever tried that style of governing on a national scale, though Huey Long came the closest before he was assassinated. Anything the Old South disliked is being gotten rid of by either passing laws gutting the Constitution of by having installed the worst choices to be in charge of every Cabinet or Agency post to eat out the guts of our Democracy by destroying it from the inside out.

Finally, as part of their utter disregard for the environment, the Republicans don't even care if their totem animal becomes endangered.

The Republicans ARE extinct, except for a few individuals, too small a number to be a breeding population.

They've devolved into Trumpists.

The speeches at the gala are a bit disconcerting to listen to, but they're a good way to know what we're up against.

Schlump used a doctored map to explain away his errant hurricane prediction.

The Daily Beast

The buffoon also took 3.6 billion from Defense department funds to build his useless fence putting 127 construction projects on hold, including funds earmarked for schools and hurricane relief for Puerto Rico. Golly, I thought Mexico was going to foot the bill.
The national nightmare continues.

Substitute false for "errant".

Rather than listening to Mulvaney's lying horseshit look at what he's doing as head of Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, pretty much the opposite of his mission, i.e. protecting consumers. Drain the Swamp? These assholes are flooding the swamp.

The Nation

Re "Sharpiegate", the crazy old bastard just can't let it go. Even Fox News is calling him out for his fabrication. If it's a ploy to divert attention from the robbery of funds from the DoD for his fence it's got to be one of the dumbest moves ever.

In the previous post, the article in the link
used the word "de-fang,"

and so does this one,

as:
"a federal consumer watchdog agency, which he
aggressively tried to defang."
