Worrying Mudcat message

Subject: Worrying Mudcat message
From: Steve Shaw

When I open Mudcat in the last fifteen minutes or so I'm getting a message saying that the connection is not private and that this website's certificate has expired. I'm being advised not to visit. Is this genuine or is it bullshit? Anybody else...?

Yeah, the security certificate has to be renewed. Since you know the Website, you should be pretty safe. But if I were going to a Website I didn't know, I would be more concerned.
But I sent Max notice of the matter.

Check if a site's connection is secure
To see whether a website is safe to visit, you can check for security info about the site. Chrome will alert you if you can’t visit the site safely or privately.

In Chrome, open a page.
To check a site's security, to the left of the web address, look at the security status:
Lock Secure
View site information Info or Not secure
Dangerous Not secure or Dangerous
To see the site's details and permissions, select the icon. You'll see a summary of how private Chrome thinks the connection is.
What each security symbol means
These symbols let you know how safe it is to visit and use a site. They tell you if a site has a security certificate, if Chrome trusts that certificate, and if Chrome has a private connection with a site.

Lock Secure
View site informationInfo or Not secure
Dangerous Not secure or Dangerous
Fix "Your connection is not private" error
If you see a full-page error message saying "Your connection is not private," then there's a problem with the site, the network, or your device. Learn how to troubleshoot "Your connection is not private" errors.

What a security certificate is
When you go to a site that uses HTTPS (connection security), the website's server uses a certificate to prove the website's identity to browsers, like Chrome. Anyone can create a certificate claiming to be whatever website they want.

To help you stay on safe on the web, Chrome requires websites to use certificates from trusted organizations.

Thanks, Max, for fixing it.

I too could not get in using Google Chrome.
By the time I switched browsers and
tried going to the site on
Firefox, the problem was fixed.

Was messed up on Firefox and Chrome earlier. Sent Max a message, and presto, all better.

I too got that on Chrome, didn't click anything except to close the browser tab, before safely reopening a few minutes later.

...was there harm in clicking on one of the links in the message?

Can we put this to bed? Just a suggestion...

...could happen again, Steve, so I feel that is a sensible question.

If you got the message when you tried to enter Mudcat, then your security feature is working, and if a link from that message had been trying to access your machine the same security would have blocked that too. It's done, handled, finished, over. Move on.

"...was there harm in clicking on one of the links in the message?"

Well I clicked it a few times,
but then thought it sensible to immediately wash my hands with disinfectant...

So far no adverse reactions...

.. maybe a little more flatulence than usual...???

"It's done, handled, finished, over. Move on."...famous last words? It could have been a UFO with a smuggled Surface Pro...or?

Glad you and your hands are okay, anyway, PFK.

Are you sure you're okay, Steve?

Could we have a Show of Hands?
