The song, "The Orange and the Green" was recorded in the US and made popular in the late 1940's or early 1950's, long before the Irish Rovers popularized it several years later. It was sung by a single male vocalist. Does anybody know the name of this vocalist? Thanks, H

Found different lyrics that use the title "Orange and the Green."

I think the singer of The Orange and the Green in the 1940's -1950's must have been Paddy Clancy.

Hooktender, "The Rising of the Moon uses the same toon and the Clancy Brother did do a version of that. It is very possible Paddy Clancy also san a version of The Orange and the Green. Neil

If as you say, it "was made popular" in the 40s or 50s wouldn't it be more likely that a "non-folksinger" had recorded it? Could it have been someone like Dennis Day?

Does the name Barney Peters ring a bell? I have a recording, "The World Famous and Justly Popular BARNEY PETERS", that I was given in the 60's. Don't care for it much, but "The Orange and The Green" is on it. He lived in Sydney, Nova Scotia, where he was in charge of the reservoir that supplied Sydney with water.
I don't believe he ever made another recording. He was an unknown, taken to Hollywood to produce this record, and went back as soon as it was finished. He was a 'pub' singer for fun, not a pro.
All the songs are Irish, traditional, but are called traditional Nova Scotia songs, as they are since there is a large Irish population there.
Blessings,
Reta

Could be Joe Heaney, if it's that era.
