17 Nov 19 - 04:41 AM (#4019665) Subject: Tech: A subtle Mudcat upgrade? From: DMcG I am fairly sure we used to have a problem that non ascii characters showed up as invalid, the most obvious being versions of single and double quotation marks that have the 6-9 style rather strictly vertical as in the ANSII set. So for a long time when I posted a clipping from elsewhere I carefully changed the punctuation. I have just posted one without doing that and Mudcat has displayed the result happily on my phone. But I can't tell if this is just because I posted it, or if others can see these characters happily. Are they now supported? |

17 Nov 19 - 06:28 PM (#4019898) Subject: RE: Tech: A subtle Mudcat upgrade? From: DMcG Thanks, DaveRo. But I feel sure people were having trouble with characters more recently than that - I seem to remember something on iPad characters appearing as squares quite recently. My question, I suppose, is, technically, whether the database behind Mudcat has been changed to support Unicode characters when it did not seem to do so in the past? |

18 Nov 19 - 04:48 AM (#4019975) Subject: RE: Tech: A subtle Mudcat upgrade? From: GUEST,Grishka The quote seems to work, but not the non-English characters. The HTML has been switched to UTF-8 some time ago, but, as DMcG rightly points out, the script that writes the stuff into the database has not followed suit, possibly with a few hand-selected exceptions?
