Review: Jools Holland annual bash

Didn’t catch all of this , and it’s always been a mixed bag of diverse genre . Stormzy was more listenable than I expected , though still not really my thing . But I felt sort of sad hearing Melanie , who I thought didn’t have the voice she was once famous for . Perhaps it’s to be expected that the voice will change as years advance , though I’m hoping that with daily care and exercise mine will rather improve .....   Joseph didn’t really do it for me , though I presume they are an established act . I guess it often comes down to individual subjective opinion.

We only had it on for a while to mask the deafening firework noise which reduced our greyhound to a shaking mass. I endured the preposterous stormzy - dreadful racket, Eddie Reader - superb, and La Roux was embarrassingly bad.

Hopeless. Don't they record it in approximately October? Bring back the White Heather Club, say I! Andy Stewart! Moira Anderson! Kenneth McKellar! A Boy and his Arrer! Scottish Soldier!

I loved Melanie - she was 72 yrs mental - and La Roux were extraordinary, full of energy and weirdness. Stormzy was Stormzy, some people will be put off by his colour, as ever.

Melanie, bless her,
always hollered when she sang --
that gets to you after a certain age.

"I don't like rap, nothing to do with the colour of the performer, shite is shite no matter what colour it is."

100% agreed, and they think the sun shines out of his arse in his home town of Croydon - the shit certainly shines out of his mouth!!!

However bad some of the acts were it was still an improvement on BBC1.

On the other hand Sadiq Khan must be congratualted on the recreation of a traditional London smog.

Craig David has 20 UK Top 40 singles, and seven UK Top 40 albums, selling over 15,000,000 records worldwide as a solo artist.

Who the hell is Bonzo3legs?

By now, folks are probably fed up with me going on about how much I don't like Jools Holland...

The stand out act for me was, surprisingly, Rick Astley..
His voice is maturing with a touch of the 'Tom Jones' in his power and tone...

Whenever rap comes on my TV I either change channel or turn off the sound and get on the computer until it stops.

The rest of the show was surprisingly good. Apart from the silent rapper and one other act I didn't get I was impressed. I quite liked the Stereophonics singer doing 'I got a spell on you'.

Incidentally 01:10 tonight (UK) on BBC4 the first of four programs on American roots music.

The person who makes Stormzy sound good.

The BBC Alba show on Hogmanay was rather good although it was all in Gaelic......Peat and Diesel, introduced to us on Mudcat by John J, made a highly acclaimed appearance. They do have a certain charisma reminiscent of some of the old folk performers, who's main purpose was to entertain and involve their audience.
I notice that my objection to the pathetic jibe concerning a presumption of colour prejudice has been removed yet the offensive remark remains in place.....my, hasn't this place changed.

Yeah , I was quite impressed with Astley, though I’ve never liked that hit single!    I don’t know who the jazz and blues singer was , but I thought she was good , and the Holland orchestra always shine imo. I’m sure the sax player goes a show on Cebeebees.....
