Let's see what I can come up with from the recording. I need lots of help. CREEPY JOHN (recorded by Spider John Koerner) I woke up in the mornin' Read the mornin' news They said it was a murder There weren't no proof (?) There wasn't only one, There's three women dead, I asked my baby, No, she said, 'twas Creepy John Who had my blood, Creepy John (??) Well, yeah, now people, Weren't nothin' but Creepy John (??) All the women went home, Lock up the door, Won't go walkin' in on the street no more, They shut up the windows, they close the blinds, Ain't thinkin' that worry be mine, 'Twas Creepy John Oh, yeah, babe, Creepy John. Well, yeah, now people, Weren't nothin' but Creepy John (??) Creepy John wanna string (?) Most anywhere, Don't care about your woman, or a millionaire, Don't make no difference, now, where you're from, All the women are sayin' 'twas Creepy John, it's Creepy John. Ohh, yeah, Baby, that's Creepy John. Well, now, people, well they know that was Creepy John, Creepy John. My baby left the house, Locked up at night, She said don't worry, Everything's all right, She no more got to walkin' Out the front door. I heard her scream and her blood run cold, 'Twas Creepy John, Oh, yeah, Baby, 'twas Creepy John. Well, yeah, now, people, they knowed it was Creepy John. And the police search All over town, Got on the trail, now, Couldn't run him down. Chicago, New York, there are women like them. I'll tell you somethin' now, I didn't get him yet. 'Twas Creepy John (unintelligible) Well, now, people, well they know that was Creepy John. |

The song must have been written around the time of the Boston strangler scare. |
