I am having difficulty in understanding/transcribing Spider John Koener's "Creepy John".
Can anyone who can understand him please post the lyrics or steer me toward a lyrics link? The sites claiming to have the lyrics actually don't.

There's a recording here, but it's hard to understand: Spider John Koerner has a Website, but I don't see anything there that helps with the lyrics to this song.-Joe-

Well, I can't find anything in any books. Let's see what I can come up with from the recording. I need lots of help.

CREEPY JOHN
(recorded by Spider John Koerner)

I woke up in the mornin'
Read the mornin' news
They said it was a murder
There weren't no proof (?)
There wasn't only one,
There's three women dead,
I asked my baby,
No, she said, 'twas Creepy John

Who had my blood, Creepy John (??)

Well, yeah, now people,
Weren't nothin' but Creepy John (??)

All the women went home,
Lock up the door,
Won't go walkin' in on the street no more,
They shut up the windows, they close the blinds,
Ain't thinkin' that worry be mine,
'Twas Creepy John

Oh, yeah, babe, Creepy John.

Well, yeah, now people,
Weren't nothin' but Creepy John (??)

Creepy John wanna string (?)
Most anywhere,
Don't care about your woman, or a millionaire,
Don't make no difference, now, where you're from,
All the women are sayin' 'twas Creepy John, it's Creepy John.

Ohh, yeah, Baby, that's Creepy John.

Well, now, people, well they know that was Creepy John, Creepy John.

My baby left the house,
Locked up at night,
She said don't worry,
Everything's all right,
She no more got to walkin'
Out the front door.
I heard her scream and her blood run cold,
'Twas Creepy John,
Oh, yeah, Baby, 'twas Creepy John.

Well, yeah, now, people, they knowed it was Creepy John.

And the police search
All over town,
Got on the trail, now,
Couldn't run him down.
Chicago, New York, there are women like them.
I'll tell you somethin' now, I didn't get him yet.
'Twas Creepy John (unintelligible)

Well, now, people, well they know that was Creepy John.

Joe, looks like you and I started transcribing at about the same time, I agree with most of your words, but there were some differences so I'll just put the whole thing

I woke up in the morning, read the morning news
They said there was a murder, they're weren't no clues
There wasn't only one, there's three women dead
I asked my baby, y'know what she said, was Creepy John

Ooh, yes, now it was Creepy John
Well, yes, now, people, they knowed it was Creepy John

All the women went home, locked up their doors
Wouldn't go walking in the street no more
They shut up their windows, they closed the blinds
Ain't got but one thing in their worried minds, was Creepy John

Ooh yes, it was Creepy John
Well, yes, now, people, knowed it was Creepy John

Creepy John gonna strangle most anywhere
Don't care about your woman, or a millionaire
Don't make no differnce, now, where you're from
All the women the same to Creepy John, was Creepy John

Ooh yes, it was Creepy John
Well, yes, now, people, well, they knowed it was Creepy John

My baby left the house, dropped every name
She said "dont' worry, everything's alright"
She never get to walkin' out the front door
I heard her scream and my blood run cold, was Creepy John
Ooh yes, it was Creepy John
Well, yes, now, people, knowed it was Creepy John

Well the police searched all over town
Got on a trail, now, couldn't run him down
Chicago, New York, there're women lying dead
I tell you some night, I didn't get him yet, was Creepy John (we're gonna lose now, baby)

Ooh yes, it was Creepy John
Well, yes, now, people, well they knowed it was Creepy John

Sorry,

It's

Creepy John gone strike, most anywhere
Don't care a washerwoman, or a millionaire

Most of the other lyrics are good in the second version.

My own impression was (and still is) that the song describes the atmosphere of panic and fear when a high profile serial killer is on the loose. The song must have been written around the time of the Boston strangler scare.
