Even sadder, a beer truck crashed and spilled precious beer all over the road. |

20 Jan 20 - 02:41 PM (#4029246) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: One last try! 12 songs for 12 months! From: GUEST,Gerry I once put together a radio program of 12 songs, the first mentioning January, the second, February, and so on. I'm 10,000 miles away from my script for the program, but a few days from now when I'm back home I may remember to look for it. I think for May I played Streets of Forbes, an Australian bushranger ballad, which has the stanza, Ben went to Goobang creek, where upon the 5th of May, The troopers filled him full of lead, as in his sleep he lay, They wrapped him in a blanket, and they rolled him like a swag, They lead him through the streets of Forbes, To show what a prize they had! |
20 Jan 20 - 03:16 PM (#4029262) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: One last try! 12 songs for 12 months! From: Richard Mellish One comment on the previous post: instead of "They wrapped him in a blanket, and they rolled him like a swag" I prefer "They wrapped him in a blanket, and tied him to his prad" which rhymes better. There are of course plenty of songs about Napoleon that mention the eighteenth of June, at least one with that as its usual title. Besides Dave Goulder's January Man, another one that goes through the months, but facetiously, is Flanders and Swann's "A song of the weather", though it applies particularly to England. Also: 7 March Arkle 1 June Sarah Jane 8 June Warlike Seamen 30 Aug Corbett's barquentine 15 Dec Good Ship Bellorophon any day in Dec Paddy Lay Back |

From: Jim Dixon These are all the songs I can find whose lyrics have been posted in the forum that have the name of a month in the title, grouped by month. It's interesting how some months are far more popular than others as subjects of songs. I have tried to include only one link for each song, even though some songs have been posted many times in the forum. It's possible that some duplicates exist if a song goes by more than one title.
