Wanting Help finding a Lomax Recording

Hello,

A few months ago, I was listening to some old blues music and I came across a cool album recorded by Alan Lomax I believe. I read about it on wikipedia and it said that it was recorded in a cheap hotel by a railroad track and during the recording you can hear the train go by. The article I read said that this enhanced the experience of the album.

Now I am trying to find out who this was but I am not having luck. I thought at first it was the Blind Willie McTell session but I do not believe it is.

Any help is good help!!

Is it the one that contains Muddy Waters doing "Country Blues" at Stovall Plantation in the early 40's and includes tracks by Son House, Honeyboy Edwards and other Mississippi bluesmen?

If I remember correctly it was just one artist. Probably a 20 minute session? It was definitely a Mississippi/Delta Blues Guitarist.

There are some very knowledgeable blues enthusiasts that hang out here, maybe one of them will turn up. Good luck.

Hi JSears,

Do you know the name of any of the songs? That might help to narrow down the specific recording you are looking for.

Did you hear the recording on the radio? If so, do you remember the radio station you were listening to because you could contact them for more information.

If it wasn't on the radio, how did you hear the recording?

Any more information is always helpful.

I'm not a blues expert but there are plenty of people here who might have the answer for you.

If an old friend of mine was still on the planet I could have asked him. He was a huge blues fan and very knowledgeable. I reckon I would barely finish the sentence and he would tell me the answer with lots of accompanying facts as well. I miss him. Clever bloke.

I have a couple of his blues recording as MP3s, but neither sounds like what you mention.

"Roots of the Blues"

"Deep River of Song... Saints & Sinners"

Both are of various artists.

The Blind Willie McTell LOC recordings were done by John Lomax, weren't they?

Have searched the Alan Lomax biography by Szwerd and have come up fruitless.

19 blues recordings from Mississippi Delta bluesman Son House recorded in 1941-42. He's on guitar & vocals, joined by Willie Brown, Fiddlin' Joe Martin & Leory Williams. A portion of this was recorded at Klack's Store, Lake Cormorant, Mississippi. You'll hear occasional railway noises in the background, as the store, which had the electricity necessary for the recording, was close to a branch-line between the lake & Robinsonville, which is where the remaining titles were recorded.

A browse of the Alan Lomax archive may shed some light?
