05 Feb 20 - 07:12 PM (#4032454) Subject: BS: pomegranate & yellow raspberries From: Mr Red I was reading a short article on "Pomegranate for muscle repair?" which took my eye. Given I dance a lot and - well - I ain't no spring chicken. The key chemical is Urolithin A which our body, or to be specific gut microbes, generate from Ellagic Acid present in: Pomegranate Juice, Cloudberries and a wopping dollop in yellow raspberries, plus useful amounts in walnuts and "oak-aged" red wine, et al. Now I love cloudberry jam (only available in Ikea and then it is seasonal) and pomegranates & raspberries but where can you get yellow raspberries? I will pass on red wine, it gives me a headache much quicker than my cider. either way - pomegranate juice on the menu for a few months in Rouge Towers. Watch this space............. |

05 Feb 20 - 09:04 PM (#4032464) Subject: RE: BS: pomegranate & yellow raspberries From: Donuel I binge on walnuts when I have the urge. Good stuff. Pom juice is kinda expensive. I love black raspberry, but yellow? |

06 Feb 20 - 03:04 AM (#4032475) Subject: RE: BS: pomegranate & yellow raspberries From: Mr Red a local man talking about Yellow Raspberries when he was young, in my (current) area. Black raspberries? Do you mean Loganberries or Boysenberries? Either way they have about the same concentration of Ellagic Acid as Oak-Aged red wine. And Cognac was listed as the same up to 50% more. Blackberries are better, I eat them off the twig, when far away from the road. I love walnuts - they're crackin'! |

06 Feb 20 - 03:32 AM (#4032482) Subject: RE: BS: pomegranate & yellow raspberries From: Steve Shaw No walnuts in our house as Mrs Steve is severely allergic. I simply don't believe in the concept of magic ingredients or superfoods. I know a man who simply must have exactly 20 goji berries per day. Nutter. Why eat them only when far away from the road? There's nothing to be ashamed of... |

06 Feb 20 - 03:37 AM (#4032483) Subject: RE: BS: pomegranate & yellow raspberries From: Backwoodsman I never eat any kind of berries which are growing wild straight off the bush. You never know whose dog has pissed on them.... |

06 Feb 20 - 01:33 PM (#4032585) Subject: RE: BS: pomegranate & yellow raspberries From: Steve Shaw I find yellow raspberries to be less raspberryishly flavoursome and more insipid than red ones. I've mostly eaten yellow ones in the wild in Scotland and mostly eaten red ones that I grow meself. Autumn Bliss to be precise. |

07 Feb 20 - 03:15 AM (#4032693) Subject: RE: BS: pomegranate & yellow raspberries From: Mr Red Cloudberries growing in the Amazon? They grow wild in the high reaches of Norway according to my Norwegian friend (and translator). But Cloudberry Jam from Ikea comes from Russia mostly. As for magic foods, would you prefer Macdonalds Hamburgers? They are on the same spectrum, it is just that some are on the obesicifation end of the spread and some reside in the pocket we shall dub "hey, this is better for you". Pomegranate juice is tasty, And not exactly a chore to drink, and I love walnuts. The older you get the more your body needs help, sitting on your arse & denegrating good advice will only raise your cortisol. And too much of that ain't gonna help longevity. PAL! But then ya can't give advice, it has to be taken. 3 times daily with meals. |

09 Feb 20 - 02:38 PM (#4033243) Subject: RE: BS: pomegranate & yellow raspberries From: MudGuard I found some orange-yellow raspberries growing wild in the northern parts of Ireland (Donegal, Antrim, Derry, Fermanagh, Leitrim) last summer. Never had seen them before. So I investigated, and learned, that they had been imported for gardens because they are very decorative, and have then escaped into wilderness. After I learned that they are eatable, I tried them - and found them disappointing - I prefer the pinkish-red "normal" raspberries ... |

I have to admit I like the tartness of the red ones....... But this will be a token experiment. The season will be short and crop, small. |
