Lyr Req: Little Darling Pal of Mine (Carter Family

I told a friend it was easy to find lyrics on the 'net, but I haven't found this one. The Carter family did it. Joan Baez did it. Thanks.

Could this be the one?

LITTLE DARLING, PAL OF MINE
As recorded by The Carter Family

CHORUS: My little darling, oh, how I love you! How I love you, none can tell.
In your heart, you love another, little darling, pal of mine.

1. Many a night, while you lay sleeping, dreaming of your amber skies,
Was a poor boy broken-hearted, list'ning to the wind that sighs. CHORUS

2. Many a day, with you I've rambled; happiest hours with you I've spent,
For I had your heart forever, but I find it's only lent. CHORUS

3. There is just three things I wish for: that's my casket, shroud, and grave.
When I'm dead, don't weep for me; just kiss those lips that you betrayed. CHORUS

Lucinda Williams does it on "Ramblin'" (Folkways, I believe)

"Little Darlin" is the title, I believe, when Doc Watson did it on an old album of his (green cover).

Why not listen to the song the way the Carter's did it at their first recording sessions in 1927-28, released a couple of years ago on Rounder Records, Anchored in Love. I grew up listening to J. Baez's version, but hearing the "original" Carter version is well worth the time and expense.

I listened...it was barely recognizable *shrug*..(there are some nice midis on those pages, but Banjo Bob has some pretty frenetic ideas about pace and tempo)...ah, well. at least he DID something....

Does anyone have the words to this song. Probably sung by the Carter Family.

Little darlin' how I love you,
How I love you none can tell,
If in your heart you love another,
Little darlin', pal of mine.

Or something like that...can't remember the rest.

BUT this was the tune Woody used for "This Land Is Your Land"

Many a day with you I've rambled
Many an hour with you I've spent
Thought I'd have your love forever
But I find it's only lent
chorus
Many a night while you lay sleeping
Dreamin of your amber sky
Was a poor girl broken hearted
Listening to the wind that sighs
chorus
As I walk through life without you
And my pleasures now are few
Won't you think of me my darling
As a maid who once loved you
chorus
There's just three things that I wish for
They're my casket, shroud, and grave
When I'm gone don't you weep for me
Just kiss those lips that you betrayed

There is a thread on this I believe...harpgirl

Friend o' mine used to sing:

I thought that it was Easter,
But I found it was only Lent!
