Sorry to hear this. Dave was a stalwart of the East Anglian scene when I was starting out, and covered a lot of miles from Thetford to turn up at various pub sessions.

He was a fine singer and presented a Sunday internet radio show and folk club from Great Massingham for many years. RIP Dave

I remember him from the Derby/Notts folk scene in the 60s and 70s. We used to book Dave and Ruth occasionally. They were disrespectfully but affectionately known to us as Duff and Rough Kipper.

Sorry to hear it's his time to go. RIP

As Dave has presented my Sunday Live Show since 2012 and was due to do the same this coming Sunday I will be playing a couple of recordings I did of him at East Anglian Folk clubs about 12 years ago. If you are interested the show is aired at 7pm and repeated at 9am on Monday, 7pm on Wednesday and 1am on Friday. You can listen at www.westnorfolkradio.co.uk or via the West Norfolk Radio app downloaded to your mobile phone

I met Dave at the London Folk Festival at Cecil Sharp House when I was still in my teens, and he subsequently gave me (and John Kirkpatrick) a lift to Towersey folk club, run by Dennis Manners, and also on one occasion to the Catford Rising Sun club. I'm sorry to hear of his passing.

We must all take responsibilty for our own actions.

Dave was an unashamedly unaccompanied singer with a superb collection of songs. He always travelled long distances to visit clubs and sessions. A round trip of 80 miles to the session he ran near me was typical and he was able to keep his journeying up until the end. He was a sporadic visitor to Mudcat, posting as "Radio Dave" but he didn't really do computers! He did a great deal to support folk music in these parts.

Such a shame... he was really my introduction to folk clubs as he ran my Local club, phoebus awakes at the Rising sun, Catford, as well as being a leading light at the London folk clubs festival. He also had a duo with jenny Beeching, two very contrasting styles. I went to their wedding at Hither grees. He was affectionately know as the singing penguin because of his stance while singing.

to clarifyM,
Dave did not marry Jenny Beeching., as far as I know
Dave and Ruth Married and split up.
Dave was convicted for a serious offence and went to Prison.
I feel very sorry for their daughter Hannah and hope she can rebuild her life.

Sandman, sorry for the unspecific pronoun. I know Dave married Ruth, I was there. His duo was with janny, who also played at the wedding.
