However that song Coward Of The Country has legs. For some reason it has legs and 40 years after it was a hit I get lots of requests for it here in the Kelso area. Often from younger folk. I'd say that along with Steve Earl's "Galway Girl" it is the most requested song I get that I haven't as yet learned. |

It had originally been intended for Marvin Gaye but Gaye was not particularly well and Gibb gave it to Kenny Rogers and produced that entire album, Eyes That See in the Dark (1983), off which it came as the first single. The perfect combination of Rogers' and Parton's voices make this a very popular song to this day. It was a huge crossover hit here. Wikipedia article on Islands in the Stream |

Yes, it was the psychedelic era of American music. I really like Islands In the Stream. It took me a while to figure out what was going on with the timing. |

21 Mar 20 - 09:13 PM (#4041222) Subject: RE: Obit: Kenny Rogers (1938-2020) From: GUEST,keberoxu You got that right, Johnny J ... that was a Kenny Rogers and the First Edition hit record, along with 'Reuben James' and 'I Just Dropped In.' My happiest memory of Kenny Rogers goes back many decades to a night when he hosted the Grammy Awards. I had seen the Grammys hosted by Andy Williams, and thought him too oily; and by Paul Simon, who was a contender that year, did NOT win, and got really strangely creepily unpleasant at the podium about not-winning as he continued hosting, with this tense fake smile on his face -- toe-curling unpleasant. Kenny Rogers was a contender that year when he hosted, and I believe that some other artist won instead of him; but he never stopped rejoicing in the privilege of being up there and being part of an event that he loved. He lifted my spirits. |

I believe it consisted of a booklet and LP record. I think it was before he achieved Superstar status. Can't seem to find it on the Net, or I'd post a link. Anyone else remember this? Jay |
