Although Barry McGuire's song, "Eve of Destruction" was written as a protest song back in the 1960's, (some of the lyrics) seem so appropriate for our current state of the world with the Coronavirus raging out of control.

"Take a look around you boy, it's bound to scare you boy.
And you tell me over and over and over again my friend
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

This whole crazy world is just too frustatin'
And you tell me over and over and over and over again
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction."

We'll get through it. Every time you feel doomy and gloomy, it's worth remembering that, just for once, we are all in this together.

China closed its last hospital treating Covid 19 infectees because there aren't enough people getting sick from it to justify keeping them open. It's a small gleam of sunlight in a dark time.

The song has 50+ candles on its birthday cake and, last seen, the McGuires were splitting time between their homes in California and New Zealand. Had to pick one for the duration no doubt. Oh the humanity.

McGuire in 1965 and the blurb from the Youtube page:

"Eve of Destruction" is a protest song written by P. F. Sloan in mid-1964.[ Several artists have recorded it, but the best-known recording was by Barry McGuire. This recording was made between July 12 and July 15, 1965 and released by Dunhill Records. The accompanying musicians were top-tier LA session players: P. F. Sloan on guitar, Hal Blaine (of Phil Spector's "Wrecking Crew") on drums, and Larry Knechtel on bass. The vocal track was thrown on as a rough mix and was not intended to be the final version, but a copy of the recording "leaked" out to a DJ, who began playing it. The song was an instant hit and as a result the more polished vocal track that was at first envisioned was never recorded.

The first time I heard this song was a day or two before the Great American Power Blackout of November, 1965.

Nobody knew what the hell was going when the lights went out seemingly everywhere, and the only explanations that seemed plausible to my age cohort were Russians or spacemen. It took several hours to determine the actual cause.

I vividly recall a radio newsman (operating on battery power) reporting that lights were out in San Juan, Puerto Rico, as well.

(This turned out to be true but brief and coincidental.)

I should have added, "and extra-scary."
