04 Jan 00 - 03:50 PM (#157925) Subject: Implications of a feather From: asthra@mailroom.com Now, I am under the impression that when a person in a ballad wears a hat and feather it means they are part of a military group, but does it mean anything different if the wearer is a woman? The example I'm thinking of is from the song Queen Amangst the Heather by Andy Stewart: "No shoes nor stockings did she wear Neither hat she kept nor had she feather" Does anybody know what this means? I tried to find more lyrics to put this in context and found a clip that included words about wishing she could be clad in satins and silk, so I am more inclined to interprete the qouted line as that the woman was poverty-stricken....but would be interested in seeing all the lyrics if anyone has them. |
