Is it the queen of the speech that is wonderful?

And who is this "we"?

You need to clarify these things

I might just go and bang me dustbin lid outside at eight, or maybe put some Beethoven on. I see that Han The Cock is threatening to lock us all in our houses now. Of course, if you're in high places you can drive off to your second home, "to check it out", family included, more than once, and stay over, or go to see your mother on Mothering Sunday. The rest of us can just be collectively punished because some tabloids made a Big Thing of a few people sunbathing (mostly miles away from other people from what I could see) in a park in London. I don't have to do that because I have a garden, a luxury denied to millions of Londoners, so who am I to judge. Hey ho. The sea at Widemouth was beautiful today. I walked to it from my house. But aren't flat-dwellers sunbathing in a park so disgusting...

Hope she has another next year...

.. and me and the mrs as well.......

Oh yes.. the queen..

..our real anthem from the silver jubilee.. up to now.. and beyond...

"God save the queen
The fascist regime
They made you a moron
A potential H bomb
God save the queen
She's not a human being
and There's no future
And England's dreaming
Don't be told what you want
Don't be told what you need
There's no future
No future
No future for you
God save the queen
We mean it man
We love our queen
God saves
God save the queen
'Cause tourists are money
And our figurehead
Is not what she seems
Oh God save history
God save your mad parade
Oh Lord God have mercy
All crimes are paid
Oh when there's no future
How can there be sin
We're the flowers
In the dustbin
We're the poison
In your human machine
We're the future…

Due to Mrs Steve ironing and me mistiming the cooking, I'm delighted to announce that at precisely eight o'clock we'll be sitting in t'kitchen scoffing a hearty beef-in-Guinness stew I've made, accompanied by mashed spuds and some greens. And a bottle of red*. I'll raise a glass to the heroes of the NHS and the care sector. The queer old dean can go boil her privileged head.

It's strange, I used to idolise the Royal Family, and watched all the weddings/funerals etc on TV with enthusiasm. But for some reason I've lost all interest in them and have come to the conclusion that they're an anachronism. I think after Her Maj has gone, the whole thing should be dismantled.
I did watch her speech, but couldn't see the point in it. I got the impression that she was only doing it because her advisers had told her the people expected it.
It's a bit rich (pun intended) for someone ridiculously wealthy who has led a life of endless privilege and luxury to be sitting there 'encouraging' the rest of us. Nah.

I'm with Sen - I didn't see the point in it either, but I didn't find it as offensive as I thought I might and I didn't switch it off in the middle (mind you, I was doing the crossword at the time time)
I do have to say that I admire her ability to speak as well as she does at her age - wonder what she's on and where you can get it (if it's not just from a lifetime of pampering, of course!)

She naturally has a speech writer. The writer was clever enough to make clear that the citizens should remain RESOLUTE.

Yes YOU should be determined, adamant and single-minded - BUT NOT THE GOVERNMENT.

Your job is to be;
firm
unswerving
unwavering
undaunted
fixed
set
intent
insistent
steadfast
staunch
stalwart
earnest
deliberate
unfaltering
unhesitating
unflinching
persevering
persistent
pertinacious
indefatigable
tenacious
bulldog
strong-minded
strong-willed
unshakeable
steely
dedicated
committed
constant
stubborn
dogged
obstinate
obdurate
inflexible
relentless
intransigent
implacable
unyielding
unbending
immovable
unrelenting
spirited
brave
bold
courageous
plucky
stout
stouthearted
indomitable
strenuous
vigorous
gritty
stiff
rock-ribbed
gutsy
spunky
perseverant and
indurate...

So that the government may remain half hearted and of two minds.

She inherited a job which she didn't want, many years ago. She has done it to the best of her ability, and always does what she's told.
Do try to remember that she has no power, and is a constitutional monarch, merely a figurehead.
Remember that had it not been for her, we may have had a President Thatcher, or Blair, and that even now we may have had a President Boris.
At present in hospital, not suffering from Scrofula.
Remember the old adage, don't shoot the messenger !

Her Maj looks at the camera with the steadiest gaze in broadcast history, and news readers the world over should stand in awe of her measured delivery and crystalline diction.

As Giok says, she's doing her duty, as usual. Setting a good example of stoic calm and giving good advice. No, she's not "relatable" and I could never imagine having a beer with her in the back yard, but then she's not a politician, is she?

I liked what John Crace wrote about it in The Guardian:

"But one thing was notable by its absence. Although it’s her job to be apolitical, there was no mention of the government’s efforts or requests to follow official advice. Her Maj still hasn’t forgotten how she was used, and made a fool of, by Boris Johnson over the prorogation and pointless Queen’s speech. In Boris, she doesn’t trust. But then who does?

The subtext was unmistakeable. If the country was to survive, it would do so through the collective resolve of its people, not through a government that had been slow to react and was still making promises it did not know it would be able to keep. And with that she faded out after little less than four minutes.

Throughout, her face remained more or less expressionless – inscrutability to hide the pain – but she had done what was required. Simply by being there, she had shown she cared. She had provided the clear moral leadership that many politicians have failed to provide. For some people nothing she could have said would have been enough, while others would have taken comfort. Most people probably wouldn’t have cared much either way. But it was a necessary rite of passage. And a tough gig when underneath you’re just as scared – if not more so, given her age – as everyone else. There’s no disguising it: the Queen’s a class act."

Class act? Moral leadership? Do me a favour. Here we have one of the richest people in the world taking tens of millions per annum for decades from the poor bloody taxpayer in order to keep her extended family of disreputable hangers-on in clover. And let's face it. She didn't write that speech, and she was well-trained.

I've no idea whether she wrote that or not, and nor do you, Steve. In either case that's not relevant to whether John Crace was accurate in applying the term "class act" to her. I think it's spot on, with its deliberate ambiguity.

Punk F R.......I t would be a wonderful opportunity for change except, we are a nation disarmed, ( only criminals, police and military have armaments) We are also tied by this latest legislation to keep us in our homes, no public or private gatherings etc. Controlled access to essential supplies. There are too many forelock tuggers to openly revolt, too many disinterested ordinary citizens. We are under the yoke of the rich and (they think) the elite, until they become powerless, nothing will change. We even have the thought police checking up on us peasants instead of removing the " rubbish" off the streets and from society. The legal profession and judges, part of the same powerful elite, maintain the status quo.

I am an Australian republican (note the small "r"). For the information of those in other lands, we have the Queen as our head of state. We hope to change this one day, and I expect the best opportunity will come after Her Majesty dies.

However, I must say that the bits of her speech I saw on news clips were most impressive, and I cannot imagine the likes of Boris Johnson coming close to her ability to actually show that she actually cares about what is going on. She gave the impression that the speech was her duty, and she is going to do her duty.

Try to imagine, if you will, the American head of state even coming close.

No one can cancel a birthday, however hard they try. Trooping the colours, well, we can give the poor horses a rest for this year.

In Canada, the Queen's Birthday is 24 May, marked with gun salutes, the planting of tender annuals, and double-dozens of beer drunk on cottage docks throughout the land. Let us all hope that, by then, gunners, gardeners and beer-drinkers alike will be able to do what they do without fear of infecting anyone with something nasty.

The Trooping of the Colour is done in early June to maximize the numbers of tourists to be fleeced. (It will likely have to be cancelled, too.)

Since this is a musical site, I would like to bring to the multitude's attention that the song for the day ought to be that Cavalier standard, "Here's a Health unto His Majesty," which is the origin of the quick marches of the Royal and Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps and a rollicking song--except for all the 'la-las'-- with fun lyrics.
