From: Tattie Bogle We have run a few (fortnightly) at Almond Valley Folk Club in West Lothian, and both bands I am in have been doing Zoom sessions too: probably of more social benefit than musical, but better than sitting all on your lonesome! I also go to several "pub" sessions a week while the pubs are closed, and have been on some of the sessions provided by people in other parts of the world: I am in Scotland, but have been on sessions in Australia, USA and Ireland. And several festivals have replaced their live events with "virtual" ones, including concerts and workshops. |

Some artists are putting a PayPal facility on their broadcasts. Mrsleveller is a yoga teacher and has put her classes on zoom. Shes getting people joining from all over and is making more than she did before. It's just a question of adapting. |

From: Tattie Bogle Yes, my daughter and her business partner are self-employed physiotherapists, and thought their business would go down the tubes when lockdown came in: but they are doing their Pilates classes on Zoom, and now get far more people per class taking part than they could ever get in a church hall! |

From: Sarah the flute I've been to quite a few virtual clubs now and it is so enjoyable although sadly playing flutes and other blowy things don't work too well on Zoom but it has certainly widened my song repertoire and got me back into singing on my own again. I too wondered if there are any clubs beyond England who are welcoming virtual visitors from around the world (time zones permitting) - there have been participants from USA, Canada and Australia taking part in some sessions as well as some Europeans. Both myself and other members of Morrigan (although we have to perform separately at the moment) would be keen to broaden horizons so please PM me or post here if you know of any clubs abroad that would welcome visitors Thanks Sarah |

From: Tattie Bogle For flute, it may depend on your audio settings, Sarah: one of our band plays whistle, and she was just cutting out all the time until we got her to adjust her settings - it made a huge difference: you need the following tweaks (if you haven't discovered them already!) 1. Click on Enable original sound (top left on a PC) 2. Go to audio settings (bottom left on a PC, open the menu next to the microphone icon) UNCLICK adjust volume automatically then set volume to near the right-hand end of the slider. 3. On that same screen, click on Advanced -it opens up a new screen: DISABLE the top two parameters to do with background noise, and leave the echo one as Auto. (drop-down menus) Once you've done that, items 2 and 3 should stay the same for any subsequent sessions, tho you'll probably have to do 1. each time. Pm me if you want details of any sessions in Scotland. |
