I had no idea this guy had been productive for so long. I can testify to the quality of his product in the 1970s.

Nicolas Sand, creator of Orange Sunshine

Thanks for the improved title. I couldn't think of one short enough to fit the size limit.

I never imagined when consuming his product that I would ever know the name of the person who made it.

Real life in the real world, with all its beauty and diversity, is a damn sight more magic than any chemical that can wreck your mental health. And, as an imbiber of the juice of the grape and the barley myself, though not to excess, I'm no purist...

I can't help thinking that yer man's contribution to humanity was minuscule at best, Jack.

As well as its proven long-term effects as an antidepressant, LSD has also been shown to have a persistent effect on interpersonal attitudes. People who've taken it tend to be more tolerant.

The dramatic negative effects were always very rare - much less common than the positive ones - and hyped to the skies by the same sort of people who went on to do anti-abortion horror propaganda.

I used his product, and other psychedelics and makes of LSD, back in the 'early '70's and had only wonderful experiences with it. It was, to use the argot of the time a real "cosmic
awakening" for me. Funny though, I always thought Owsley "Bear" Stanley, of Grateful Dead fame, invented Orange Sunshine but according to the article the two were acquainted.

As far as I can tell, Nicholas Sand died on 24 APR 2017. Over three years ago.

OK. I saw the obit in someone's timeline, saw the month but not the year and figured it was one of the many stories lost in the pandemic.

Still worth knowing about.

Peter Green wasn't the only LSD casualty in the music world.

I grew up not far from Detroit,
which gave us Funkadelic in the '60's and early '70's
(they then morphed into Parliament/Funkadelic).

They had a guitarist named Tawl Ross, if memory serves.
Don't know whether or not he has died yet.
But fellow band members recall witnessing the evening
when he started off his intake
with some form of meth or other amphetamine --
a LOT of it --
and then he took the acid ... as did his fellow band members ...

I recall reading the sad story of the communal "trip" they took at that point.
Tawl Ross was talking to his mother,
who had died years earlier;
the witness reported, "And because I was tripping as well,
I could see her and hear her myself ... "

well, the witness evidently came back to sobriety.
But Ross was a shell of a human from then forward,
and was reportedly being cared for
by his relatives, a basket case.

... but he turned up in North Carolina in the 1990's.
And there is no obituary ... still alive in some form.

Coming back to sobriety is the wrong way to look at it.
Its more like once you have had the experience of learning how to read, you are never the same old illterate.
As for accidents, they come in all shapes and sizes.

It looks rather as if the whole lot of them were set on self destruction by whatever means necessary, and LSD was an obvious extra ingredient to throw in after doing speed and Satanism.

The Process Church seems to have been rather efficient at fucking people up.
