I am a folksinger, and an artist by my trade, And I massacre folk-music, with a yard of German plywood and a capo. I do requests. Just the one that's got two chords in and I disregard the rest (With Bert Weedon's help, one day I'll be the best!) Lie lie chorus..... Seeking twenty plus expenses, I go looking for a gig -But I get no offers, just a come-on from a groupie at the (local) club I do declare there were times I felt so lonely, I took some comfort there Lie Lie..... In 'Sir Patrick Spens I clean forgot the forty-second verse So I sang the twenty seventh, out of turn and in reverse And no-one noticed!!! I laughed for hours! The tears ran down my trouser leg! I thought I'd wet my drawers. I've sung the folk tradition with my finger in my ear 'Cos half the tripe I'm singing, I can't a-bear to hear It's a load of cobblers! Hour after hour To the rhythm of an out of tune one string thatched guitar I've sung my songs for money, and sometimes I've been paid And I carry a reminder of every gig I've played Like last Friday. At the Irish Club. I fled in mortal fear. With the imprint of a Guinness bottle stamped upon my ear (If you don't sing The Dubliners, You're queer.) Well, I've got myself together, man, I'm really freaking out smoking Cannabis (St Bruno.) Drinking pints of stout, and having hang-ups. I'm like the rest! I've had trouble with my sex-life since I fell and sprained my wrist. (And my other songs are twice as bad as this!) No idea who wrote it, but it was obviously in the British Isles, and aimed at enthusiasts like me. Does anyone have any more verses? |

Some differences: Vs 2: "I do declare, I was feeling rather randy so I had her then and there" Vs 6: " ... smoking black Old Holborn resin, main-lining on draught stout . . ." Scotts group The McCalmans did a brilliant version "live". |
