Tech: Nissan CD players

I never liked the 6 CD changer in our Nissan Qashqai. I like to put a CD in, play it then change it for another later. Yesterday, having just collected my wife's medication from Croydon University Hospital, I switched on the engine and the CD was immediately ejected, and annoyingly would not let me put it back because it was stuck in eject mode!

My wife told me that it sometimes happens with CDRs, why is this I wonder??

So this question isn't really particular to that make of vehicle, it simply has to do with automotive CD players in general, with the side question about CDR disks? I haven't used my CD changer in the almost 2 years since I bought the vehicle. This reminds me I should test it. Coincidentally, I own a Nissan, in this case, a Pathfinder.

I've heard of cars having similar issues, but have never noticed any particular issue with CDRs or not.

If it's a problem with the radio itself, thankfully, swapping out a car radio is an easy thing most people with simple handiwork knowledge can change it out for ~$40 or less depending on how nice of a radio you want to get and your car.

And if you really want to go nuts, there are some incredible sound systems out there. There's a store in the US called "Car Toys" that I think started out with audio systems.

Its the car my wife drives because it's much kinder to her severe scoliosis than my 2003 Micra, which now has a digital player so will play from a memory stick.

I have found the CD slot on several of the cars that I have owned too narrow for a CDR with a printed label stuck on it.

I don't use the CD player on my current Nissan, it is much easier and safer to use bluetooth and listen to the playlist on my phone.

Thanks for the bluetooth suggestion - that'll give my wife something to think about!!

Putting on an extra 32gig of memory has given space for a decent playlist but memory cards are cheap as chips these days.
