BS: Any school librarians on mudcat?

Is anyone out there a school librarian or do you have a connection with someone who is?
I have just signed a contract with Facet Publishing in the UK who are connected with the professional librarian chartered institute in the UK CILIP to write a book on game-based learning and gamification for school librarians and I am after some short case studies to include in the publication.
The games can be slides, complex computer games, physical games such as board games, mixed media games combining virtual and physical worlds or live games involving role play or escape rooms. Games can be commercial or home made. There will also be a chapter on gamification where reward or points are given for completing levels of work. The only criteria that is important is that the game MUST be used in the school library or where the librarian has collaborated and suggested it to a subject teacher - I am not interested in just classroom based games.
The book will have theory chapters on game based learning and the life skills this approach also engenders and there will be closing chapters on the impact and practicalities within a school library setting and also on reaching out beyond the library to subject areas
I have a template (just one side of A4) which I can send out if you contact me - PM me for email or look at my website www.sp4il.co.uk
The book will have an international focus so particularly welcome are case studies beyond the UK
I will need replies by the end of December 2020

Hoping some people out there maybe able to help

Cheers

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

Interesting project. I was a public librarian but started my career as a high school teacher. For some reason that I couldn't ever fathom I was unable to transition directly from librarianship to school librarianship without doing a bridging course. As it worked out, I found other work instead so I didn't follow up on that course.

I'm sending your request to my Hubby who works at an Australian high school and I'll ask him to forward the information to the school librarians.

I have a librarian friend who has co-taught in her field (nursing) with the professors, but at a university level. That said, I'm sure there are some around doing what you're asking for from K-university. Check out Facebook for librarian groups.

I'll pass the request on. 40+ years in public, but not high school (other than tossing them out of the library for various offenses).

Sarah, send me an email and remind me to put you in touch tmith my sister, who was a high school librarian in Massachusetts. Her usual job now is coordinating foreign exchange students.

Wow - thanks everyone for the replies so far. I will drop you an email Joe
It is an exciting but daunting project but luckily I have written an online training course on the same topic for another library organisation here in the UK. This book will include more theory and illustrations of what other people have done in practice through the case studies and vignettes.
I am focusing on school libraries dealing with students aged up to 18 as there are quite a few publications on university and workplace games and also on classroom games but this will have a different slant.
I'm just trying to reach as wide a range as possible for the case studies so fab if people can spread the word

Many thanks - Sarah
